With Ike set to strike far away in Texas, iReporter
cameramania
can't believe the
high surf
pounding the sandy shores of the resort town of Destin, Florida.
Just days before, she was seeing a
similar scene with
Gustav. This time around, she captured footage of crashing
waves and high water near buildings and a shade structure near her
home. While she's not too concerned about her own ability to
weather the storm, she worries about residents directly in Ike's
path.
"Texas, you can forget boarding it up. The water is going to
wash it all off. It pulls on the structures real bad. I hope those
people last who live by the water and are staying out there."
Is Ike affecting you?

A news station broadcasted earlier today sais that Home Depot and
Loews would be closed today. Needing board to cover my windows, I
decided to roam the streets in search for a street vendor. I
reluctantly found that a Home Depot were closed in lower income
locations but open in the more prominent neighborhoods. Disgusting.
I'll never shop at Home Depot again.

Before assuming ask where are the lower income neighborhoods? Were
they in more danger of flooding? Ask a few questions before
boycotting a business. The obvious first response may not be the
correct reason.

EVERYONE was notified early enough to pack up and leave the area.
Those people that decided not to listen and stayed and now crying
for help to get them out should be charged big bucks for their
rescue effort. They are putting other people's lives in danger.
These rescuers have families just like them. If people refuse to
heed warnings the state & county should make these people sign
a waiver stating that they cannot and will not be rescued. This is
costing the taxpayers a lot of money to rescue them. If it was up
to me, I'd turn a deaf ear on you.

Ref Hurricane Ike. I'm at Ft Bragg NC. The gas prices in 100 mile
radius went up $2.00 over night. Today we are making list of
gasoline, trash bags, paint, batteries, heating oil, mobile oil
& transmission and other petroleum products related to the to
the chemical companies in the Gulf Coast. Though it's probably too
late now, Pres Bush should have directed the Sec of Commerce &
Transportation to conscript all oil tankers to remove as much oil
as possible in convoys along designated corridors to safety. Also
to direct gas merchants not to price gouge effective immediately!!
Some peolpe did not evacuate not because of arrogance but because
there was no gas to be had. PAY ATTN TO THE RIPPLE EFFECT. NO
POLITICS TODAY. Last, Pres. Bush should express sympathy and
prayers to our Carribean neighbors and to Mexico. Congratulations
to CNN, the Civil and Military authorities on what they've
accomplished so far. God's speed. SFC Erika Rocstinney, US Army,
Ret. 9-11Pentagon Survivor and Washington, DC native.

I live in northeastern Arkansas and our gas prices have taken a
HUGE leap today from $3.70 to $4.20. Some towns near where we live
are seeing $4.90 regular gas.

you know how you get a bill from the ambulance service if you need
to go to hospital???? Well the people who refused to leave when a
manditory evacuation order was put in place, should be billed for
any rescue service given to them. Why should the other tax payers
that left the danger zone have to pay their bill???

There is a web site called hurricanehousingsearch.org that
survivors can access to find short and long term shelter from the
hurricane. The housing is all over the country and open to people
and animals. Please put out on the news so hurricane survivors have
a place to look if they need help with housing.
Thank You and God Bless, Beth Donahue

I totally agree with the comments of gilldreams! With all of
nature's destruction that have hit this country I cannot remember
when a statement "leave or die" was given. Yet you always have
those idiots that tempt nature. That was their choice! Let them
live with it.
The cost of repairs after Ike are bad enough. Think about the ADDITIONAL monies, that we do not have, that will be spent on RESCUING those that refused to leave!

Lets first define insanity; "doing the same thing over and over and
expecting different results". Why is that you keep electing the
same people over and over again and then expect them to govern
properly. Keep in mind that there are only 535 total congressmen so
you figure out the ratio.
FORMER California "Cunningham is sitting behind bars right now for receiving $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors. Rep. Bob Ney, a Republican from Ohio, resigned after pleading guilty to conspiracy and making false statements in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. Rep. Randy "Duke Despite their dirty deeds, Cunningham, Ney and other former lawmakers who left office in disgrace will still receive a federal pension for life, often in excess of $100,000 a year. Tom DeLay's indictment stemming from political contributions, and the Mark Foley page scandal. Not to be out done the DemoRATS have had their own legal and ethical lapses in the persons of Dan Rostenkowski, who was indicted on corruption charges and resigned as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee; House Speaker Jim Wright stepped down amid an ethics scandal; and former California Rep. Tony Coehlo resigned amid allegations that he received special treatment in a junk bond deal. The list goes on and on! As for the conflict with Iraq. Our loss in Vietam as taught us nothing. I could care less who wins the election because nothing will change regardless and I refuse to vote for the evil of two lessers, and that applies to congress aswell. If I were voting I would simply vote AGAINST the incumbant regardless of party. We are now a Socialist Nation. If these bozo's are our best then God help us!

Privatize the profits and socialize the loses!--Randi Rhodes.
If Bush is hailing this package, you can bet Wall Street will bathe in money, CEO's will get their millions, and working people will get hit harder! The Democrats think the paltry oversight means something. They haven't had the spine to hold the Administration accountable in their past crimes, why should we believe them now? Hell, they won't even enforce their own subpoenas, and refuse to use Inherent Contempt. No one has more contempt for this Congress than I, except, of course, the Administration. R.I.P. middle class. Welcome the new age of Dickens!

donotcare,
You think both parties are the same? It is the Democratic leadership who are the cowards. Republican deregulation and lack of oversight is the root cause, starting with Reagan, then Bush 41, exacerbated by Clinton bowing to the Republican controlled Congress, then strongly pushed by de facto President Cheney and his sock-puppet, Bush 43. Also, the Republicans, who always called for an "up or down" vote when they were in power, and called any threat to filibuster, "obstructionism," have now filibustered in one session of congress more than any session in history. The Republican party marches in lock-step (goose-step) with the Neo-cons. At least Obama and many Democrats want to protect the middle class. Republicans, and some conservative Democrats, are only interested in protecting Wall Street, and screw the middle class! With an Obama victory, there is hope. With a McCain victory, there is no hope.

GIVE THE MONEY TO THOSE WHO NEED IT . GOD WISH I HAD A 200 MILLION DOLLAR BOUNCE FOR WORKING ONLY 3 WEEKS. WHERE ELSE IS THERE ANOTHER COUNRTY WHO DOESN'T PUT THEIR PEOPLE FIRST. I KNOW THERE ARE SOME BUT THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AREN'T TAKEN CARE OF IN THIS COUNRTY. WE HAVE MANY HOMELESS MANY WITHOUT JOBS SO MANY WITHOUT HEALTH CARE . You know the problem I see.
Is that banks and people. im sorry but it doesnt take a genius to figure out, that if you make 50,000 a year you go out and buy a 60,000 or 70 and on up thousand dollar home, ask your self why would I do that, and put my self in a bind, theres no room for era Thats the banks fault they should not lend money to people that cant afford these big house payments and for another thing about gas dont whine and cry if we run out of gas you people that drive big suvs your the ones that r sucking down all our gas get a car or a smaller suv or small trucks and when you make more spend less if all possible |
