Sara Palin. What She Does Not Want You to Know

This is how Republican Vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama's win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and who asked that her last name not be used, Gov. Palin was eating lunch with five or six people when the subject of the Democrat's primary battle came up. The governor, seemingly not caring that people at nearby tables would likely hear her, uttered the slur and then laughed loudly as her meal mates joined in appreciatively.

"It was kind of disgusting," Lucille, who is part Aboriginal, said in a phone interview after admitting that she is frightened of being discovered telling folks in the "lower 48" about life near the North Pole.

Then, almost with a sigh, she added, "But that's just Alaska."

Racial and ethnic slurs may be "just Alaska" and, clearly, they are common, everyday chatter for Palin.

Besides insulting Obama with a Step-N'-Fetch-It, "darkie musical" swipe, people who know her say she refers regularly to Alaska's Aboriginal people as "Arctic Arabs" - how efficient, lumping two apparently undesirable groups into one ugly description - as well as the more colorful "mukluks" along with the totally unimaginative Eskimo's," according to a number of Alaskans and Wasillians interviewed for this article.

But being openly racist is only the tip of the Palin iceberg. According to Alaskans interviewed for this article, she is also vindictive and mean. We're talking Rove mean and Nixon vindictive.

No wonder the vast sea of white, cheering faces at the Republican Convention went wild for Sarah: They adore the type; it's in their genetic code. So much for McCain's pledge of a "high road" campaign; Palin is incapable of being part of one.

Tough getting people who know her to talk

It's not easy getting people in the 49th state to speak critically about Palin - especially people in Wasilla, where she was mayor. For one thing, with every journalist in the world calling, phone lines into Alaska have been mostly jammed since Friday; as often as not, a recording told me that "all circuits are busy" or numbers just wouldn't ring. I should think a state that's been made richer than God by oil could afford telephone lines and cell towers for everyone.

On a more practical level, many people in Alaska, and particularly Wasilla, are reluctant to speak or be quoted by name because they're afraid of her as well as the state Republican Party machine. Apparently, the power elite are as mean as the winters.

"The GOP is kind of like organized crime up here," an insurance agent in Anchorage who knows the Palin family, explained. "It's corrupt and arrogant. They're all rich because they do private sweetheart deals with the oil companies, and they can destroy anyone. And they will, if they have to."
"Once Palin became mayor," he continued, "She became part of that inner circle."

Like most other people interviewed, he didn't want his name used out of fear of retribution. Maybe it's the long winter nights where you don't see the sun for months that makes people feel as if they're under constant danger from "the authorities." As I interviewed residents it began sounding as if living in Alaska controlled by the state Republican Party is like living in the old Soviet Union: See nothing that's happening, say nothing offensive, and the political commissars leave you alone. But speak out and you get disappeared into a gulag north of the Arctic Circle for who-knows-how-long.

All right, that's an exaggeration brought on by my getting too little sleep and building too much anger as I worked this article. But there's ample evidence of Palin's vindictive willingness to destroy people she sees as opponents. Just ask the Wasilla town administrator she hired before firing him because he rebelled against the way Palin demanded he do his job, or the town librarian who refused to hold the book burning Walpurgisnach Mayor Palin demanded.

Ironically, Palin was pushed into hiring the administrator by the party poobahs who helped get her elected after she got herself into trouble over a number of precipitous firings which gave rise to a recall campaign.

"People who fought her attempt to oust the librarian are on her enemies list to this day," < http://www.laprogressive.com/2008/09/03/about-sarah-palin/>states Anne Kilkenny, a Wasilla resident and one of the few Alaskans willing to speak on-the-record, for attribution, about Palin. In fact, Kilkenny actually circulated an e-mail letter about Palin that was verified and printed by The Nation.

For good measure, Palin booted the Wasilla police chief from office because, she told a local newspaper, he "intimidated" her.

Running on Extreme Fringe Evangelical Views

Sarah Palin drew early attention from state GOP apparatchiks when, during her first mayoral campaign, she ran on an anti-abortion platform. Normally, political parties do not get involved in Alaskan municipal elections because they are nonpartisan. But once word of her extreme fringe evangelical views made its way to Juneau, the state capitol, < http://www.laprogressive.com/2008/09/02/hurricane-sarah/>state Republicans tossed some money behind her campaign.

Once in office, Palin set out to build a machine that chewed up anyone who got in her way. The good, Godly Christian turns out to be anything but.

"She's doesn't like different opinions and she refuses to compromise," Kilkenny notes. "When she was mayor, she fought ideas that weren't hers. Worse, ideas weren't evaluated on their merits but on the basis of who proposed them."

Sound familiar? Palin may well be Dick Cheney's reincarnate.

Something else has a familiar Republican ring to it: Her tax policies, and a "refund surpluses but borrow for the future" attitude.

According to Kilkenny and others in Wasilla as well as Juneau, Palin reduced progressive property taxes for businesses while mayor and increased a regressive sales tax which even hits necessities such as food. The tax cuts she promoted in her St. Paul speech actually benefited large corporate property owners far more than they benefited residents. Indeed, Kilkenny insists that many Wasilla home owners actually saw their tax bill skyrocket to make up for the shortfall. Two other Wasillian's with whom I spoke said property taxes on their modest, three bedroom homes rose during the Palin regime.

To an outsider, it would seem hard to do, but an oil-rich town with zero debt on the day she was inaugurated mayor was left saddled with $22 million of debt by the time she moved away to become governor - especially since nothing was spent on things such as improving the city's infrastructure or building a much-needed sewage treatment plant. So what did Mayor Palin spend the taxpayer's money on, if not fixing streets and scrubbing sewage?

For starters, she remodeled her office. Several times over, as a matter of fact.

Then Palin spent $1 million on an unnecessary, new park that no one other than the contractors and Palin seemed to want. Next, Sarah doled out more than $15 million of taxpayer money for a sports complex that she shoved through even though the city did not own clear title to the land; now, seven years later, the matter is still in litigation and lawyer fees are said to be close to at least half of the original estimated price of the facility.

She also worked hard to get voters approval of a $5.5 million bond proposal for roads that could have been built without borrowing. Anchorage may not be the center of the financial universe but, like good Republicans everywhere, Sarah Palin knows how to please Alaskan bankers and bond dealers.

For good measure, she turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots.

En route to the governor's igloo, Palin managed to land what Anne Kilkenny says is the plumb political appointment in the state: Chair of Alaska's Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (OGCC), a $122,400 per year patronage slot with no real authority to do anything other than hold meetings. She took the job despite having no background in energy issues and, as it turned out, not liking the work.

"She hated the job," an OGCC staff member who is not authorized to speak with the news media told me. "She hated the hours and she hated what little work there was to do. But she couldn't figure out a way to get out of the thing without offending Gov. Murkowski" and the state Republican Party regulars, some of whom were pissed off they didn't get appointed.

But ever the opportunist, Palin quickly concocted a way. First, she waged a campaign with the local news media claiming that the position was overpaid and should be abolished - despite the fact that she lobbied Murkowski hard to get it. Then, mounting what she saw as a white horse, Palin raised a cloud of dust by resigning from the OGCC and riding away with an undeserved reputation as a "reformer."

But when a local reporter dared to suggest that the reformer Empress has no clothes, Palin tried to get her fired.

"She came at me like I was trying to steal her kids," said the targeted reporter, who now works for an oil company in Anchorage. "I heard she had a wild temper and vicious mean streak but it's nothing like you can imagine until she turns it on you."

Not surprising since some of her high school classmates still openly call her "Sarah Barracuda," Kilkenny insists.

Still, as a Republican Party hack Palin managed to get herself elected running under the false flag of a "reformer."
And what did she bring to the job? No legislative experience other than a city council of a village of 5,000 people, which is smaller than some high schools in Chicago. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; after all, she needed to hire a city administrator to run Wasilla. No executive experience, except for almost being recalled as mayor. A philosophy of setting public policy based on one word: No.

And what has she done since winning the job?

According to Kilkenny, nothing. Well, nothing other than suggesting the state's multi-multi-million dollar, oil-generated surplus be distributed to residents and finance future state needs by borrowing money. Gee, doesn't that sound precisely what George Bush did with the surplus he inherited from Bill Clinton in 2001 and we all know in what great shape Bush's economic policies left the nation.

It may explain why, when asked by reporters, including me, what she thought about Palin being picked to be McCain's running mate, her mother-in-law replied with a sardonic, "What has Sarah done to qualify her to be vice president?" Of course, when the woman - said by many I spoke with to be well-respected in Wasilla - was running to succeed Palin as mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her, so that may explain the family tension.

As Governor, Palin gave the legislature no direction and budget guidelines, according to the chair of a legislative committee. But then she staged a huge grandstand play of line-item vetoing countless projects, calling them pork. "They were restored because of public outcry and legislative action," the aide said. "She vetoed them mostly because she had no idea what they were or why they were important."

But it was enough to get the McCain, who is mostly unobservant of the world around him anyway, to think Palin has a reputation as being "anti-pork."

In fact, Juneau observers note that Palin kept her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork ladled out by indicted Sen. Ted Stevens. She only opposed the "bridge to nowhere" after it became clear that it would be politically unwise to keep supporting it, these same insiders assert. Then, Palin fell back on her old habits and publicly humiliated him for pork-barrel politics.

As for being "ready on day one" to be commander in chief, despite the repeated public claims she's made, the Alaska National Guard commander said that, "she has made no command decisions, other than sending some troops to help fight a few brush fires and march in parades at county fairs."

"Palin is a conniving, manipulative, someone who thinks these are positive traits in a governor told me, summing up Palin's tenure in Alaska state and local politics.

"She's a bigot, a racist, and a liar," is the more blunt assessment of Arnold Gerstheimer who lived in Alaska until two years ago and is now a businessman in Idaho.

"Juneau is a small town; everybody knows everyone else," he adds. "These stories about what she calls blacks and Eskimos, well, anyone not white and good looking actually, were around long before she became a glint in John McCain's rheumy eyes. Why do I know they're true? Because everyone who isn't aboriginal or Indian in Alaska talks that way."

"Sambo" may be everyday language up in the bush. Whether it - and the outlook, politics and worldview Palin reflects when she says such things in public - should be part of a presidential campaign is another thing altogether. The comment says as much about McCain as it does about Palin, and it says a lot of things about Americans who overlook such statements (as well as her record) and vote anyway for McCain. McCain and Palin particularly care less for the African American and Hispanic voters.

Sarah Palin says alot of things. Exactly what is she saying? She has said nothing Politically correct. Her statements have no facts or merit. No Presidential canidate has ever won an election on a smear campaign.

lila, it's great the hack job regarding Steve Jobs was removed, but it wasn't before major damage was done -- and not just to Apple, but to millions of individual shareholders like me who have already lost major value in holdings. CNN has some responsibility here -- to do the fact-checking or just a single phone call (!!) to verify the story before posting it -- that was obviously left out of that (most likely) malicious piece of sensationalist, Enquirer-style, tabloid "journalism." It only serves to damage CNN's reputation. You can cite a non-interference policy if you wish, you can point out that the story was removed due to a comment pointing to Apple's denial, but when a story has potential to cause damage of this magnitude, CNN does have a responsibility to act BEFORE the story is posted. All it would've taken was ONE phone call to Apple asking if Steve had a heart attack. Instead, you allowed this tripe to damage people's retirement, ability to pay medical bills, and financial positions. Nicely played. CNN is not a trusted news source for the people. It let me and a lot of other people down to play to the ego and whims of one nearly anonymous individual who didn't have the testicular fortitude to use his full name.

I didn't say it was CNN's fault; I said they have some responsibility when damage of that magnitude can be done. It was preventable. Had someone even bothered to check the video and do a quick, easy verification, this would've been prevented. A report with a title like that SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHECKED. Perhaps I'll look at your video later.

Imagine if an iReport were done claiming that Bush had been assassinated. Or had died in a car accident. Or had a fatal heart attack while clearing brush at his ranch. Would CNN allow that to be posted without checking its accuracy?! If so, that, again, would be extremely irresponsible! It would elicit panic, possibly an attack. It's no different.

In theory, iReport is a good thing. But it should not be used as a vehicle for people to publish malicious, false reports that cause major damage, especially when ONE CALL would've resolved it. One. Simple. Call.

We vote people in that do nothing to stop the credit card companies rip off of the american people with fees and interest rates that go well above what the feds have it.

I think if consumers had steady credit card rates regardless of a late payment or not and are not charge fees then as they pay off the debt the interest rate drops that is being charged that would be ananswer to a solution I have not heard i debates.

If that consumer doesn't currently have the debt paid off in seven years then credit card companies... should be SOL collecting A govenment self imposed safe guard to keep the fat boys honest. It is directly due to these people and because of their bad business decisions to bilk that people are losing on wall street, pensions being affected and americans looking at the fed as the biggest debt collector and dictator of the "free world".

If they did that there would be balance in this nation and no more bailouts of wall street. Monitoring the credit card companies will bring americans OUT OF DEBT by forcing them to not charge fees upon fees and to jack up interest rates.
Until we put something in place in government to freeze credit card companies and the fees they charge average American Joe blow. How are we ever going to recover when we cut the fed rates and make any dent to get us out of debt?
If we are to get credit using credit cards, banks etc.... there is an imbalance. The fed gets 3% interest and it is jacked up to 10 to 12 plus for banks lending money and credit card companies add fees and more fees onto the "simple" rate jacking it to 29% on purchases and America is wondering and media how Christmas is going to survive????
Who allows the fat boys to charge so much? The whole issue is crazy that we penalize people earning money trying to build credit by charging exorbitant rates and yet no bail out when we are over charged by these same credit companies who have no regulation to be disallowed to bilk the American citizen.

We bail out the banks when the small business man or citizen states they are not able to make the amount needed to make payroll and we're puzzled by our self made dilema?

IF truth really be known, since we have helped the world out why is it that they don't allow us to go into bankruptcy and they take the hit for once? Something is very wrong about credit card companies being allowed to bilk us while they steal our savings on Wall Street.

What I want Obama to make perfectly clear to the American people and McCain tonight is that we should not be in Iraq. We should never have gone there and despite what McCain says there is no dignity to be found there. There is nothing dignified about going to a place where you were not asked to come and told we would prefer it if you would leave. The tons of money and thousands of lives lost for nothing really is beyond any explanation McCain or Palin can give.

Other countrie's leaders, Putin, Chavez and Ill, laugh at us. Believe me, we are the butt of many jokes in the lands of our enemies. What is there to be proud of in that? They say, "Those stupid Americans with their stupid president stay in a country for all these years? For what? They call themselves the leaders of the world. How ridiculous!" I am certain that is how we are viewed. It is time to pull up stakes. Now.

Tonight i just want to see if j. mccain will expose himself to the american people instead of hidding behide Sara Palin.

Through business trips and trade shows I have talked to quite an array of people around the country in the last 30 days. Without consideration of party affilition I would say that nearly everyone is thoroughly disgusted with the way congress approached the "bailout", especially considering the fact that there was any "pork" in the bill at all - what a sellout by all of them! No excuses, it's what most people are fed up with!!

Instead of bailing out wall street why not the Americans? Give us our hard earned dollars back so that we can pay off our debts, mortgages and stimulate the economy. I propose they do it by only giving to those 18 years and older who are currently working. Let it be up to us to save us instead of paying for expensive trips on our dime.

As I watch the debate I notice that Senator McCain could not remember the American her name and to another American he made a comment and Senator McCain stated that he may never have heard of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. McCain is becoming McPain he has no solutions to my issues. He sounds so rehearse. As a once middle class American I do not trust McCain. Not because my income has changed, but becaue of the finicial issues. He did not say anything to convince me to vote for him. From Detroit, Michigan

The debate was extremely interesting. However, I must say that the "How factor", was missing from Senator's McCain's plans. He never says how. Yes, we will double troops in afghanistan, but how?

On the other hand, Senator Obama says, we will reduce troops in Iraq in order to double troops in afghanistan.

On many issues, the how factor is never mentioned by Sen. McCain so it is clear to me who has a real plan to get this economy going again, Sen. Obama who says HOW.
It is every American right to have healthcare; poor health results in poor performance and gravely affects family. We need to ensure everyone has affordable health care.

I think John McCain is out of touch with average American family; an example of this fact is when the young African American gentleman asked him a question during the debate and his response to the gentleman was that before today he had probably NEVER heard of Fannie Mae and Freedie Mac, WHAT WOULD GIVE HIM THIS IMPRESSION? As a young African American woman I felt insulted. Does he think that we are uneducated or lack the necessary intellect to follow these major concerns in our economy?

I think Senator Obama was able to allow people to see him as a smart, intelligent person who is more than capable of running this country. He was confident, and did not waver on his positions. McCain performed as usual. Stumbling around, talking in circles, afraid to committ to anything substantial. And why did he and Cindy leave? Was it past his bedtime?

I think we saw smart ass and dumb ass, (smart ass in a positive tone" but in a "politically correct arena" Obama won hands down. McCain is tooooo out of touch and keeps reverting back to "prior" years. "What is the saying past forty? your showing your age.. This, A huge concern of ours with 4 college students in our household unable to attend; why is that for some reason, all the foreigners that come to our country with no intention of staying here are afforded a college education ticket paid in full, while our American blood children are turned down for basic loans and are not afforded that privalege or families are scraping to come up with the next tuition. My larger temper comes from that of having to go to a military funeral of my oldest sons best friend, who was killed by snipers in Iraq, he wanted to be a cop, he wanted to serve but also wanted school, the only way was to join the military to afford. Does anyone know what its truly like to have your oldest son knock knuckles on a military casket as best buddies do in life, but now in death-- taking the very breath away of all-- in a sea of a red/white and blue funeral dying of course with honor, but the last good bye knocking knuckles then watching a child fall to his knees in disbelief??? All for reasons THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND??? Yet Another that couldn't afford college!!! Looking at the same child few months prior, with a huge smile, when asked what he is thinking? to his response that he will be fine. Never again will I see that childs smiling face in our home. How many of our kids/loved ones have to die before someone gets it in Washington???

What better way to do this is to ask one of the wealthiest admired men/woman in our country?? I think our leaders should pay attention!! I think that who ever will be president should be fair to all the CITIZENS in America. they should not be in Iraq fighting for no really good reason that has a good meaning. People should not be paying extra taxes for other peoples problems with health and other problems. Its not fair that citizens have to pay extra for other peoples problems. we have a living doing what we do. The people that don't make enough money, i feel sorry for them but its not up to us to pay for there life. that is one of the things that the debate should be talking about.

I do not know if anyone else noticed but neither Candidate last night would directly answer any of the questions posed. The one that iriated me the most was the question asked whether the health services solution should be a "for profit" or a "non-profit" one. Neither Obama or McCain ansered it, instead both went on their usual diatribe about how they would fix the health care mess. Neither of these candidates showed any respect of their the audience by answering the questions posed....this is typical of both of them. It is as if they do not even hear the question, just the subject matter. How can either be a good leader if they do not listen?

While I have respect for Mc Cain and his past service, I feel that he is not up to the job ahead. He really looked old last night and I am old myself and realize that at 72 he is not up on many things. Obama is the future...you can see that. He may not be saying everything you want to hear but he has the energy and the knowledge to bring us into the next era of energy, solar power. He is up on all the latest information and wants to educate our students to make them competitive against the countries who have now pulled ahead of us. He has the most knowledgeable people surrounding him like Buffit. Bush and Mc Cain did not do this and will not do this. Obama came from a poor background having a Mom on food stamps and being raised by grandparents. He relates to having to work hard for things. His Mom got him up at4:00 a.m. to study. Mc Cain grew up in wealth and had every opportunity given to him. When he fooled around in school and nearly failed out, his Dad, an Admiral saved him. He never had to work hard for things as he came from a different background. He was a war hero but after the war used that service to help him get elected. He cannot relate to food stamps his life was far from that and that is why he supports the upper income people. He is a good man but wealth is all he knows and I wish I could vote for him but I cant. His choice of v.p. scares me. We need someone who is the future and it was so obvious last night that Obama is the future. I hope you will look past the color of his skin and realize that he is the one who will take us with calm and knowledge through the next few years of difficult times.

Okay, I've been able to hold it together pretty good so far. But I guess you can only run so far until it catches up to you. I do this by having a little spunk, being tough, voicing opinions, laughing through the hard times. I'm pretty good at doing all of that. Until today, that is.

My husband planned to retire in February of 2009. We have been planning for this day for the last eight years when I won a moderate settlement for a serious accident that I had. EIGHT YEARS!! We invested carefully and thoughtfully. My husband has a 401K stock fund through work that we had planned on getting us through the next five years as income. We have been scrimping and saving for the last year knowing that this momentous occasion was fastly approaching.

My first investment was eight years ago, and within one week it went down. And in the last eight years, I have never gained it back. Well, now, since June, our entire life savings and 401K has gone down an alarming amount that would get us through five years of retirement. In four months, AT@T stock has gone from $43.00 to, as I just looked at it, is now $24.00 per share.

I am managing my mother's life savings due to her health. She had a fairly sizeable amount that she wanted us to have after her passing. There is no way I can possibly tell her this, but her investment has gone down so much, she will probably outlive her money, and my husband and I will have to support her. With what? I ask. Then Medicare just notified her that she may be losing her health insurance. She's 77-years old.

So after exposing myself to careful scrutiny, hope, courage, and, knowledge during the last four months, as I looked at all my balances today, it hit me like a ton of bricks. Our money is disappearing like sands through the hourglass, and there's no way to grasp onto them.

When we invested originally, people were making money right and left. It was at the end of Clinton's administration. Within one year of George W. Bush's presidency, our money started going down, and has NEVER caught up to our loss. Five years ago my husband almost lost his job at AT@T after sitting behind a desk for 25 years. They put him outside to work. He was 50-years old, and they put him in a job where he climbs telephone poles and goes down into sewers. This is a man who never even had a sick day in 25 years, and the last five years have been hell...just trying to get to that 30 years and get the hell out and retire. Well, the harsh reality has just hit: it ain't gonna happen, and it makes me sad for my husband, but mostly it makes me MAD.

Sure, nobody says life is fair, but this is hard for us. He may have to work another ten years in the sewers of Michigan, and that makes me sad. I am thankful that he does have a job, but it does seem unfair that this is happening to the whole United States. As I write this, I cannot stop crying for all the things I've been holding in the last four months. We had a big countdown calendar until retirement in February 5, 2009. It was so exciting to dream of the day that he didn't have to get up at 5 a.m. and work in the snow and mud. Well, that calendar is put away, and no more X's are being placed in the squares because it is just too damn depressing. We have lost so much money this week, I can't even fathom it.

So I DO get riled up about this election. And now, to see the hate-mongers that Palin and McCain preach to makes me ashamed. Sarah Palin gave a speech yesterday trying to paint Obama as the next Bid Laden, and the crowd drew cheers of "Terrorist!!" "Traitor!!" "Kill him!!" And that "hockey mom" did NOTHING to shut them up. That is mind-boggling to me, these people who preach on Christianity to get the conservative vote, yet it's okay to make up lies when you know damn well that Obama is NOT a terrorist. I mean, come on!

The McCain Palin ticket scares me more than losing my last red cent. McCain looks like a nut-job old codger who wants to live in the past (yes, John, we know you were in the Navy, for God's sake) and Palin is just, well, God, where to start. She is no example for anyone...she's a robot, except for the fact that a robot would have more brainpower than she does. And she is MEAN! And I don't want her as president when McCain kicks the bucket. I'm tired of siding with the rich. I want someone to work for me.

When I went to the Hillary Clinton rally a couple weeks ago, she said to ask NOT "Who ya for?" but rather ask "Who's for YOU?" And we need change, and I pray to God that He has mercy for this country to bless us with an Obama-Biden ticket for the next four years. Because the Bush administration has ripped our life from us ( and yes I know the Congress is Democrat and blah blah blah) but this problem started way before the Dems. held seniority. I have proof in my investments. The last EIGHT YEARS!! I am the poster child, and it is a disaster.
God bless everyone out there trying to keep their day to day life together, because it is NOT easy, and we need help. We need change. We need understanding.

Okay I have up until this point tried to keep it together. Tonight was the final straw for me and I want to voice my opinions. I am a PROUD AMERICAN who choses to fly the flag on my lawn everyday in support of my country. I also feel as tax paying person I should have the right to display a sign that displays the person I feel is the right person for the important job of the presidency. I had 4 signs displayed and 20 houses on my road possessed the same signs. We all feel that McCain is the man for the job. Tonight however that right was taken away from me and all of my neighbors including the entire town next to me. They were litterly stolen from our property. This may seem trivial to some of you but I see it as much more than just a sign. Not only are Obama backers encouraging people that have never voted before to register numerous times but I cannot help but feel this election is already as corrupt as it can be. From Fannie May and Freddy Mac, to the friends and associates of Senator Obama to the underhanded ways in which people are now being registered and allowed to vote in the same day, to the acorn stories and so much more. For all of you that support this man I have a few questions. First, tell me something that Senator Obama has accomplished or has done that would provide him with the experience and the good judgement to make the most crucial decisions. What experience does he have with the military or with foriegn affairs that could reassure me that he would make the right decisions to keep America safe and my family safe? What makes him such an expert on the economy? Has he turned around a deficient economy? Has he created jobs? Has he done anything that I can grasp onto and at least consider him another choice? What sacrifice in his life has he made that would make me feel he understood me, my family and its problems? What action has he performed that would insure me that he loved this country more than anything and would lead accordingly? Has he any life experience that I can look at as a positive resume builder other than voting the middle of the road as a senator? Please give me a real answer not a big HYPE. It is easy to sell a big dream when you color it so well people forget to ask about the details. My freinds, I am really afraid. The world is in a terrible place right now. The threat of a potential world war and life as we know it is knocking at different doors everyday. I live in a country I am proud of, full of people I want to be proud of. I hear all the complaining about the economy, and yes I feel it probably as much if not more than alot of you. But I still have to remember no American has had to choose which of their children may live, and which has to die because they do not have enough food. This happens daily in other countries. We do not have children raising siblings with no food or education because the parents are dead and no one else cares. These same people only concerned with the economy probably still have shelter and have a car in addition to one or two tvs. They have government programs available to them that can help them with food and shelter and education and medical care. I see the most important issues of this election being our safety and a reassurance of our continued future as a strong and free country. I am voting for a man that has experience and honor as quoted many time by Biden and by Obama. I am voting for a man that has a record to look at and has a real history that relates to the concerns of today. I am voting for a man that has the courage to stand up for what he believes in and does not consider the poll standings as a condition. I am voting for a man that has sacrificed his life to keep this nation as strong as it is. I am proud to be an American when I look at John McCains record. For those of you that disagree I challenge you to give me some answers to my question. Tell me something more than 3 years experience and the hype. Give me a reason to consider changing my vote. Please stand up and protest the way this election process is being allowed to run. We have the best system in the world but if we allow some of this pre election nonsense to continue....why even have an election?

• Not, I think, because she's a drug addict and an admitted thief.

McCain revealed this week that she was addicted to pain pills for two years. She also said she stole drugs from an organization she created to provide emergency medical services around the world.

McCain said she started taking pills - eventually up to 15 or 20 a day - in 1989 after surgery left her in pain. She was also bearing the stress of the harsh publicity over the McCains' link to convicted financier Charles Keating Jr.

She said she's remained drug-free since 1992, with one brief lapse.

Hers is a sad tale, but hardly distinctive; addiction and thievery are pretty common these days.

In fact, about one of every four inmates in Arizona 's bloated, fantastically expensive prison system is locked up on drug charges. That, by the way, is thanks to mindlessly punitive anti-drug policies supported by officials like, well, like Sen. McCain and Gov. Symington.

So. Maybe we're supposed to be proud of McCain simply for admitting her misdeeds.

Maybe. Except that her addiction apparently was something a lot of people knew about and that was likely to become broad public knowledge soon anyway.

The federal Drug Enforcement Administration had been investigating, and a former employee of McCain's medical team had filed a lawsuit against her over the issue.

McCain herself reportedly said that her motive in going public was to beat the rumor mill.

So it can't be that either. Should we be proud at the bold way McCain went public?

Don't think so. Guided by an entourage of advisers, McCain cleverly pre-empted bad publicity by breaking the news through a selected handful of media outlets.

She did this only after completing private treatment, and only after reaching an agreement with the U.S. Attorney's Office that ensured she would not be prosecuted if she entered a diversion program.

So why are we supposed to be proud of Cindy McCain?

Answer: We're not.

Sympathetic, supportive, tolerant - sure. I don't doubt McCain's physical and mental pain, the power of her addiction, the remorse she feels.

But proud? Sorry.

That suggestion, I'm afraid, is the product of ''spin,'' of a careful campaign to deflect public attention away from the awkward facts of addiction and theft, and onto the appealing made-for-TV drama of confession.

A campaign, in other words, to limit the political damage.

It is, once again, the ritualized praising of a celebrity criminal - based upon the murky idea that members of the elite ''suffer'' enough merely by admitting guilt.

To which I say: No sale.

Not that I want Cindy McCain to go to jail. I'm not even sure she should be punished; if we imprisoned all the secret addicts among Arizona 's privileged classes, we'd need more prisons than even Sam Lewis could dream of.

I just wonder why we should be praising her while siccing the cops and the media and the child-welfare workers on all the poor Jane Does who turn to crack to cope with their stresses - stresses perhaps worse even than bad press.

I wonder why I couldn't hear our leaders' calls for sympathy and tolerance amid their shouts for heavier weapons and harsher attacks in the War on Drugs.

I wonder about the thousands of noncelebrity wretches struggling alone against alcohol or heroin or whichever ''health problem'' plagues them, ignored if not punished by society.

I wish Cindy McCain well, but I'll save my cheers for them.

Does anyone care when talented black leadership is murdered? what does it take to get media or law inforcement envolved or to take high profile cover-up seriously? How is it that corperate threats on paper and a dead body can still be covered up in today's scientifical community? McCain and Palin in NO way elict hatred or racist bias toward Obama at their Republican townhall gatherings. What you hear shouted from the public is a pure outcry of opposition towards a Presidential Candidate (Obama)who lacks any record of real achievement, ignited further by the senator's lack of professional judgement throughout his lifetime, with unsavory past associations. Remember .... a person's past is generally a predictor of their future. We as citizens would like to hold our elected officials in high esteem. With Obama ..... we hang or heads in shame.

You must be kidding. Telling people Obama pals around with terrorists is not inciting violence? Why don't they tell the people what they are going to do for the American people instead of spouting hate. Obama seems to be the only one who thinks we need to get the terrorists who attacked us on 911. Bush & McCain just want to monitor a civil war in Iraq because of oil.

For someone who claims he wants to protect Americans from terrorists, he sure wants to avoid getting Bin Laden.

This has to come forefront in the news and it will hopefully get the attention of Americans and stopped. Every American has the right and duty to vote and the system has to make every vote count!
