Follow along with iReport staffers as we build a new kind of news site.
Hearing personal stories from people who have returned from Iran, like iReporter tehrooni , provides valuable insight into what's going on in a country with heavily restricted communication.
She told us about the surreal atmosphere of walking down the street and seeing armed guards with batons who would break up a group with more than five people. She spoke of the fear in people's hearts and an incident of teargassing that sent her fleeing with her grandmother. tehrooni's grandmother fell down, and a man nearby came to help her up. "It was really a surreal moment," she said. "Everyone was running away, coughing. [The man] told my grandmother it's okay, reassuring all of us it's going to be over soon"
We're monitoring the situation at CNN's Iran Desk, and iReporters are helping us piece together the puzzle. What do you think about what's going on? Comment below and share your views, or put yourself on video and send us an iReport .

The main reason that civil protests to the presidential election fraud have been weakened during the past week in Iran is the great fear of savage actions and crackdown by the basiji militia, riot police, and security forces. They easily attack the buildings which its residents went to chant “God is great” or “Death to the dictator”. They brutally beat up or even shoot at people to death in the streets. They don’t tolerate the most peaceful ways of objection. We are alone and afraid but it doesn’t mean that we are satisfied or exhausted. |

If they are doing this to their people imagine what they would do to the countries that they don't like when they have their nuclear bomb, at this point they would not give up on their nuclear because having it is the matter of their survival. Its funny if we think they would sit and talk and agree to anything with US, so what is Obama afraid of? Please help the people of Iran and United State of America. Now or is too late! |

As a westerner I'm embarrassed and ashamed at how our media has shoved the coverage of the crackdown on Iranian citizens to the back burner. While I don't agree that the the west is "meddling in" or orchestrating the movement in Iran, I do feel that the people fighting for their freedom on the streets of Tehran need to know that the world is watching. Their story has been tossed aside as second page news in favor of covering the death of Michael Jackson. Way to turn your back on an entire population to improve your ratings. |

THIS WHOLE THING IS AN OUTRAGE AND A CRY FOR HELP. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BESIDES THE RODNEY KING RIOTS OR REBELLIONS IN LA IN THE 90's. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE PEOPLE ARE STILL FIGHTING. I MEAN I WOULD BE UPSET AS WELL BUT, THIS IS JUST OUT OF CONTROL. THERE IS A LOT OF MEDIA COVERAGE WITH THIS WHOLE THING ASWELL WHICH IS KIND OF A GOOD THING BECAUSE WE ARE VERY INFORMED AND ALERT THAT THIS CHAOS IS GOING ON. YOU CAN'T EXPECT MUCH BEACUSE THE MIDDLE EAST IS ALREADY CORRUPT IN ITS SELF. WE AS AMERICANS JUST NEED TO SIT DOWN AND PRAY FOR THOSE PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY REALLY NEED IT. THE WORLD IS SO CAZY NOW, AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE THIS WAY UNTIL THE END OF TIME(WHICH IS SOON). I JUST HOPE THAT WE ALL GET IT TOGETHER IN OUR OWN COUNTRY AS WELL. PLAY TIME IS OVER....OBAMA NEEDS TO STEP IT UP!! i know there probaly is a lot of police and military abuse in Iran against demostrators, but what gives america a right to protest about the abuse when , in america, all the time, police are beating and abusing people´s rights, and lest us not forget the american past where protesters have been beaten by police, Cnn should also remember that. As for Germany and our so called miracle worker Chancelor, well why has she a right to protest when her own people are sometimes beaten at protests by police that also has been televised. If the western goverments want to condemn Iran for beatings and such maybe the western countries should open their own closets and see the skeletons. |

Ahmadinejad might force, control and kill people in order to rule however he does not have respect anywhere around the world. People are living in a state of fear. If you see less people in the street is because militia in Iran kidnap people, threaten families and kill them. Many parents will never find out where their kids are and will be threaten to even complaint to any human rights organization. They can blame UK, US and the whole world but everybody is watching how they are killing people. Ahmadinejad should not be recognized Internationally by any civilized country. If any government wants Iran to stop their nuclear power, the first step should be sanctioning oil purchase.

I know this will be read here 1. The event this morning should be taken as an arrest against a Honduran citizen, Manuel Zelaya, who broke the constitutional Honduran law in multiple occasions over the last few days.
2. This SHOULD NOT be taken as a Coup d'état.
3. The vast majority of Hondurans firmly oppose Manuel Zelaya and are in favor of his arrest.
4. The current news being portrayed in international networks appear to be heavily tilted toward a contrarian view of most Hondurans.
5. The majority of Hondurans are not in favor of Manual Zelaya and are extremely proud of our congress and military for their stance in favor of democracy and peace.
6. The events happening today were caused by an attempt by Manuel Zelaya to manipulate our country and its constitution to fulfill his ultimate goal of remaining in power indefinitely.
7. The world should be proud of Honduras as we are the first Latin-American country to stand against a tyrannical leader who has tried to topple democracy and peace in our country.
8. Declarations made by Hugo Chavez should be discredited immediately. He should, as President Obama said, allow Hondurans to solve this issue through open communication following LEGAL processes.
9. It is NOT ONLY in the interest of Honduras and its citizens that democracy prevails (supported by the events today and Manuel Zelaya’s arrest) but also in the interest of the UNITED STATES that no other countries align with Hugo Chavez (and his puppets) to build his empire against democracy and peace.
10. In case Hugo Chavez tries to use military force in Honduras, we hope and pray we can count on the United States to stand along side Honduras in the fight against tyranny and oppression.

Sender's note: Please be advised that the letter below has just been written (June 29, 2009) by a young man who currently resides in Iran. His name is Saeed. His last name cannot be divulged for safety reasons. He has posted this on his facebook page. I have not altered the text, (despite some grammatical errors) other than removing his last name, to protect him. Under his letter is a poem he wrote. This is very real and powerful. I hope this will be published to the world, as he has requested. I am simply the messenger. Thank you. ________________________________________
June 29, 2009 - Iran A letter to the world: What will you do to sprout germination?
I am writing this letter on behalf of a starred (prohibited from studying) PhD student. I am writing this letter on behalf of a flogged worker on first of May. I am writing this letter on behalf of a sentenced to death teenager. I am writing this letter on behalf of a sentenced to death by stone woman. I am writing this letter on behalf of Saeed.
It has been so many years that we are fighting for our basic rights. You detain and imprison us, torture and flog us. Execute and exile us but we still stand firm. On the international women's day we announced that women and men are equal and condemned any kind of sexual discrimination, but after all you executed your men partisan and medieval rules against women. On the first day of May(International worker's day)we announced that we have to get paid and we announced that we are going the same way that workers are going in the whole world and we have same goals and asked you to put an end to the tyranny against immigrant workers. But you imprisoned us and kept us in the worst conditions ever and tortured us. You flogged workers because they participate in international worker's day and charged them with the high fines. On the international children's day, we announced that children is first and you do not have the right to sexually and physically abuse them. You do not have the right to use them as a cheap silent work force but you still you took advantage of them in the streets and workshops. On the student's day( 16th of Azar),we announced that, do not execute, do not stone to death, put an end to the conquests(Shari'a)rules against humanity and let the university-as it implies from its name-be a place to study and produce human and science forces. But you attacked us and at night arrested our friends and send them blindfolded to the prisons. You starred and expelled us and positioned militia forces in the universities.we told you repeatedly that university is not a garrison(military area)and asked you to emit your forces out of universities but you attacked our class rooms and dormitories and injured students.Today is one of our friend's funeral ...yes,I am talking about Kianoush Asa, the one that you killed him in prison and under torture.
We cried(shouted) repeatedly and of the same voice along with the global movement against children execution and asked to stop it.But you executed our Delara and you keep take children with skimpy and wobbly legs to the gallows. We announced that Iranian people are not militant and they do not want destruct any generation, race or color. Our slogan was"One identity, the human identity"and"one land, one man".But you kept announcing your personal ideas and opinions in the name of the Iranian people.we repeatedly announced that we do not want Islamic government and you kept governing by medieval rules.
We have given you a warning and are fighting for years now. This movement which you call it dirt and brushwood is that student, woman, child and worker who you have disregarded his/her right for along time.
This is not a revolt movement of prosperous people. This is not a protest of loser voters. This is a cry of oppressed people of Iran who yell from the bottom of their hearts "death to dictator,Khamenei and Islamic republic. This cry is echo of the voices that you have heard all this years from the larynx of freedom partisans in the corner of your prison cells and pits. Iranian people have found each other and know that your overthrow secret is in their solidarity. That is why they say "Do not be afraid! Do not be afraid! We are all together" Iranian people, men and women equal and of the one voice came to streets as they said and stood in front of your bullets. On the same day that you killed Neda,I saw another woman standing with open hands and yelling "Shoot, shoot, kill me too".This is your overthrow movement that cries in the streets"I will kill who killed my brother". It will not be too late, history will repeat for you one more time and Freedom and Equality would be the Iranian message to the whole world.
But I am Saeed; The student worker who has been in your detentions and prisons so many times. The starred student ,you expelled him from university and the worker who spent the best years of his life in exile and prison.I am the cry (shout) of the common pain who has clenched his fists stronger in all these years to yell "death to DICTATOR" today and stronger than ever.Do not frighten me of death. It has been few days that you put my family under the sever pressure and attacked my place so many times but each and every time you have failed and been the looser. This pressure and creating the fear and panic atmosphere can not stop our friends and their families in the middle of their freedom road because we are aware that in our freedom way , we do not have anything to lose except for our chains.Your act might interrupt our activities, perhaps we lose our dearest ones and best moments of our lives in that way but your interruption will never be able to stop us.

Ahmadinejad have preached hate whereever he gets the stage to speak. Now those seeds have sprouds and it will grow stronger against a system that do not have a meassage of freedom. "Reap what you sow" Allah sais He is the light, this is a call to Islam to come out of darkness and follow the light, follow the ruleship of Allah and not of man. The Iranian people will lead the way for this reformation. |
