Your stories, on CNN! »

You've probably noticed that CNN iReport has a whole new look and feel -- including a brand new homepage inside CNN.com.

The new look is designed to showcase your stories and the many ways they enhance CNN’s global news reporting every day.

CNN iReport producers are eager to feature your work, and while there’s no guarantee your iReport will appear on the new homepage, the ones that do share some common traits.

iReports that make it to the homepage typically:

  • Are tied to the news of the day
  • Provide a perspective or angle on a story that isn’t available anywhere else
  • Include the components of a good story -- the who, what, why, where and when

A few final, but important, tips: If you want your story to be featured, make sure that all the content in your iReport, including text and images, is your own. Also, please add a phone number to your private profile so CNN producers can call you with questions, and upload an avatar image to your profile so we can feature your work in our new “voices” section.

If you follow these tips, you’ll have a great chance of having your stories showcased on the new CNN iReport homepage, but not just there. You’ll notice your iReport submissions in stories, photo galleries, video interactives, and sections across CNN.com –- just more validation that CNN producers are committed to showcasing your content. After all, your contributions make CNN’s reporting and storytelling better every day.

We hope to see your stories on CNN soon!

This comes to you from an active duty Sergeant First Class stationed at Ft. Hood.

There have been some discrepancies with your reporting that I would like to point out.  A Soldier Readiness Center, (SRC), or Soldier Readiness Processing Point, (SRP), are used for both deploying and returning soldiers to and from a combat zone.  These sites are labeled different names and acronyms on different U.S. Army installations, but the fact is, the SRC on Ft. Hood is used for both purposes, not necessarily simultaneously, but does have this capability.  The SRC is a place where soldiers must be evaluated medically, psychologically, financially and for circumstances that may arise as a result of their death in the combat zone.  Conversely, these same sites help soldiers assimilate back into a life in the CONUS through the same types of evaluations, briefings and medical care.

I would like to address the issue of security on Ft. Hood that has been raised, and that of the capabilities of the Security Forces, (Gate Guards), Military Police, CID and Civilian Police.  All four of these elements provide outstanding security for our "open" post on Ft. Hood.  The quick reaction and actions of the civilian and military police in this shooting incident clearly saved lives and prevented a massacre of even greater proportion from taking place.  Keep in mind, all soldiers in all SRP's and SRC's Army wide are unarmed.

It is sad to see the speculation in the media that our forces could somehow have guarded against this event.  It is worth considering that the one coward who executed this murderous rampage was, in effect, a guardian himself, a person who was privileged to hold the rank of Major, in the position as a care giver at an SRC.  I find it reprehensible that some members of the gunman's own Chain of Command did not take deliberate action to have him removed from his position once he made his intentions to leave military service clear.  Furthermore, his previous poor evaluation, Officer Evaluation Report, (OER), at this rank and position in and of itself should have warranted his removal from this highly important and sensitive position as a therapist.  I have heard to many times the opinions of those who have not served in a combat zone, specifically those who have never engaged the enemy first-hand, that their account of the war in both theaters should not be, or have been fought.

Go there.  Be there, be an American on the front lines of Democracy for the free world and tell me and my dead friends we shouldn't be there.  This "therapist's" opinions, especially in this position, never should have been overlooked.  What we need to do get this murdering cold-blooded killer healthy enough to walk.  Then we need to Court-Marshal this "officer," find him what he is, while simultaneously building a gallows on the front lawn of our White House.  Then we need to march him up the steps without a hood, pray for his forgiveness, and hang him by the neck until dead on International Television, spotlighted by CNN.   When we’re done with that, then we need to determine who knew this guy had the potential for extremism and charge them with dereliction of duty under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, (UCMJ), Article 134.  Note: That last paragraph is just my opinion.
