October 29, 2009 |

Hey,
Where are the nachos? I thought this was a partay? |

Hello Hello! Chilly here in San Diego. |

Any update on the Photo Club? When will that resume? |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi |
October 29, 2009 |
@seeitnow -- I would save you some of my apple, but I think it'd be nasty by the time it got to you.
October 29, 2009 |
Hey. |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi! |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi seeitnow, we had nachos in the newsroom last week but they're all out, unfortunately. Welcome! |
October 29, 2009 |
Any tech update on the fact that the ends of videos are cut off? My new uploads and old ones are cut off. |
October 29, 2009 |
Hello everyone!!!! |
October 29, 2009 |
Sorry if I have to cut to the chase. I'm at work and it's a busy day.
I've noticed that regardless of the photos' resolution or size I upload, they appear rather pixelated on iReport. I can post the same picture to Flickr or Deviantart and they appear crystal clear. Why is that and Is that something that can be fixed?
October 29, 2009 |
Hi, seeitnow!
October 29, 2009 |
@everyone -- Looks like we're starting to get a good crowd, so If anyone has questions, feel free to fire away.
October 29, 2009 |
When I go to ireport.com - the collage of images. What is supposed to happen when you click on an image? I can click the image and see the producer quote but when I click on video or image... nothing happens. |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy Thanks for bringing that to our attention. We'll take a look. |
October 29, 2009 |
Also, will iReport be getting a more prominent home on the CNN homepage? |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi Alison ans iReport Atlanta
Glad you're all taking some time off for a little get together |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi folks, sorry I'm late. |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy I think it's a known issue that we're investigating. |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy - We'll pick up Photo Club again when we get through the relaunch craziness. Any suggestions for the next assignment? |
October 29, 2009 |
@alisonv -- I know that our developers are aware of the problem with videos being cut off. Not sure of the status.
October 29, 2009 |
Hi ty |
October 29, 2009 |
From a videographers perspective all seems to be working fine for me. I notice that I have to re-sgn every time I go to my web mail on iReports, not really a big deal though. |
October 29, 2009 |
Thanks, nsaidi. :o) |
October 29, 2009 |
Joyful, I miss the cnn home page square, too! I feel a little disconnected now that iReports are no longer there. I think viewing will go down. |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy iReport does have a more prominent home! If you go there now, you'll see an iReport photo on the main story on the left-hand side, as well as a photo essay from yadray in the center section. We've been incorporating iReports more and more on CNN.com since the re-launch and expect to continue as time passes.
iReport is part of CNN now, which is why there's no seperate section -- iReports are and will be part of every section. |
October 29, 2009 |
@ChrisMorrow can you give a specific example? They should work if everything is set up properly. I've been working on the image block for the past couple of days and can look into it. |
October 29, 2009 |
I haven't any problems uploading my video. I haven't tried photos yet though. |
October 29, 2009 |
Thanks David. |
October 29, 2009 |
Christina - How about aiming the Photo Club more toward photographers and making it a learning experience, as well, by getting a little more technical than just aiming and shooting something pretty? |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy Also, Tyson shared some of the many places that iReport is on CNN on the blog. |
October 29, 2009 |
Has anyone on team ireport taken a look at Where's the CNN Logo blog? Lot's of good input there.
October 29, 2009 |
Q. Will Flash documents ever be able to be uploaded? |
October 29, 2009 |
Katie, where is the iReport on cnn.com? I can't find it. Is it on the U.S. version? |
October 29, 2009 |
I'm in ... howdy all!
October 29, 2009 |
nsaide-
ireport.com I click on the maria shriver picture. I click on the words - star studded - and nothing happens I also click on the other obvious links and nothing happens.
make sense? |
October 29, 2009 |
@Joyful - That's an idea we've toyed with before. The first assignment asked for people to craft a photo essay, but since then, we started shooting for themes, so we could feature the content. Now, if the club were technique-based, what techniques would you want to try out first? |
October 29, 2009 |
Of course view counts are way down but at the end of the day we are all under the CNN "brand" and that is a "very" powerful "brand". I would suggest that we need to pull up our socks and stand on our own two feet to increase our views. In other words we need to strive to do better and better. Of course CNN could give a push by integrating us more into the main page, at least for a while just like they do for CNN broadcast. Maybe after a while then ease off and let iReport stand on it's own like it is now.
October 29, 2009 |
What about a "bloopers" assignment maybe. Was in a museum, taking video, and just about knock over a piece of art. Not really news but maybe others might have just as unexpected clips not shown. |
October 29, 2009 |
@alisonv iReport is now a section on CNN.com, just like Travel or Tech. If you go to the CNN homepage, you'll see iReport at the far right of the navigation bar. Is that what you mean? |
October 29, 2009 |
Katie - I've stated my concerns on other blogs. It's obvious viewership is way down. Vetted iReports are getting very few views. I saw a great iReport by SeeItNow recently that only had 35 views and it was vetted. iReports that are not vetted are getting maybe 20 - 25 views and they are all by other iReporters. |
October 29, 2009 |
@ChrisMorrow I just tested it and it worked for me. You should be able to click on a link or image and get to the story. Might be a browser issue? Try clearing your cache as well. What kind of setup are you on? |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheWarden I've always been able to upload .flv's to iReport. I'll check with our techs for clarification and specs. What exactly are you trying to upload? |
October 29, 2009 |
The good thing about the new redesign is that there are actually more places on the CNN homepage where we can highlight iReports.
With the old design, we were lucky if we got three iReports on the main page.
We've got at least 4 on the page right now.
October 29, 2009 |
@nsaidi
I am on IE8 Not able to get to any of the stories.
my cache is cleared. |
October 29, 2009 |
Katie, not exactly. I thought you had said that there was an iReport on the CNN.com home page. I just re-read your comment so I understand that you mean after you click the iReport tab. |
October 29, 2009 |
nsaidi: Not trying to upload anything, was wondering if it was available. |
October 29, 2009 |
@seeitnow I couldn't have said it better. Thank you.
@JoyfulGypsy View counts are increasing every day. We're featuring iReports more and more often and will continue to do so. The good news is that iReport can be featured in more places than ever on the new CNN because it's not separate from the rest of CNN's coverage. As you can imagine, the relaunch has been a huge change and we greatly appreciate your patience. |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi Alison,
I believe that iReport is not accessable from CNN International and since you are in Italy that could be why. |
October 29, 2009 |
@alisonv check the US version |
October 29, 2009 |
Christina - There are so many techniques to try out for the Photo Club. I've submitted lists of ideas. How about starting with something simple like black and white photography? |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy -- Everyone at CNN.com is still trying to figure out work flow in the new system, so traffic was down for the first couple of days.
It's rebounding now and yesterday's traffic was higher than last Wednesday. |
October 29, 2009 |
@everyone I think that once the kinks are worked out,and people get use to the new layout our views will go up. Beside it'll give me time to get use to say CNN IReports at the end of my report. |
October 29, 2009 |
Good idea JoyfulGypsy. Black and white makes great work! |
October 29, 2009 |
Seeitnow, I still get it on the "edition" version that it sends me to. It's a tab at the top. I can also switch over to the US version when I want to. |
October 29, 2009 |
Call me a noob, but is it okay to upload a video to iReport and then to YouTube, as well? I've only uploaded segments to iReport that were exclusive. |
October 29, 2009 |
I'm patient and hopeful. :o) |
October 29, 2009 |
@mpgomatic Thanks for coming! I talked to your friend stickergiant a bit ago. Thanks for pointing him to us! |
October 29, 2009 |
Can music purchased be used in iReports? |
October 29, 2009 |
I'm just voicing concerns as I see them from my perspective. |
October 29, 2009 |
@mpgomatic iReports are non-exclusive, meaning you can upload to other places as long as the other party is fine with the piece being on CNN iReport. |
October 29, 2009 |
@alisonv -- iReport is in the navbar at the top of the international edition. You can access us from their. We'll be working our colleagues in London and Hong Kong to increase our presence on their site. |
October 29, 2009 |
Q: Along the lines of Joy's Q, With images, when your system receives and processes, are you:
1. Standardizing the image size/quality? (video or photo) 2. Translating it into a stadard file type?( " " ) 3. What are the server restrictions concerning downloading to viewers to keep server from crashing 4. Are you using Vitualization technology on the servers? |
October 29, 2009 |
I have a question about content. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but it seems that iReports critical of a particular politician do not get vetted. I have had several iReports used in the past, but never those which were critical of, for example, my congressman Sam Johnson, the 30 senators who voted against the "anti-rape" amendment, Silvio Berlusconi. If it is just a coincidence, that's fine. But if it is a policy, I would rather know that in advance so that I don't bother making videos for iReport which are critical. (I'm never abusive, of course!) |
October 29, 2009 |
Gypsy while learning new things is always a plus (heaven knows I could use some help) I would say the majority of people that send in photos do not have the equipment to be very technical. Just like with the fish eye assignment, many of us had to use photo shop or some other program to participate. Many feel fortunate to have a camera period, but enjoy sharing photos they are capable of taking. Perhaps there should be two categories under photo club advanced and very amateur, with no cross over. I can certainly understand your frustration. |
October 29, 2009 |
@nsaidi - thanks! :) when I saw John's blizzard video, I smacked him upside the head and urged him to upload it. |
October 29, 2009 |
Hey a piece of good news a local tv staion here in Atlanta is going to follow me on Twitter and on my blog on my trip to Florida for the Tweet Up launch. |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheWarden -- Just heard back from our techie friends. The nut graf is you can upload .flv's in five popular codec arrangements. I don't know about other formats. |
October 29, 2009 |
And one more, do you use "cloud" technology on the servers? |
October 29, 2009 |
congrats Adriana71 :) |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy re: photoclub - black and white is a great suggestion, the one additional challenge we're hoping to achieve with photoclub is tying it to the news. Keep those suggestions coming.
Re: page views. We hear you - loud and clear -- and we're doing our best to feature your content. There's a lot of planning that goes into programming the new CNN homepage, and we're getting better at it every day. We launched Monday, and traffic has increased a little each day. |
October 29, 2009 |
Hey everyone- really happy with the new look and system. Super user-friendly. |
October 29, 2009 |
Congrats, Adriana! Good for you! |
October 29, 2009 |
@adriana71 Very cool! What station? We'll have to tune in. |
October 29, 2009 |
@adriana71 Twitally rad! (snort) Hope you'll be iReporting! |
October 29, 2009 |
Hey guys! Sorry I'm late. I was writing an article about some new social media phones! Including a device excluively for Twitter! Crazy!!!!!! So what's up? |
October 29, 2009 |
@nealmoore Hello. Thank you! Very glad to hear it. |
October 29, 2009 |
nsaidi - good stuff! That makes things a good bit easier.
Another question ... is there a standard video release form somewhere? I'll be shooting a bunch of segments at the SEMA show in Las Vegas next week and want to make sure that everything is cool, rights wise. Is a verbal okay? |
October 29, 2009 |
@KyleHD - How's the new job going? |
October 29, 2009 |
oh yea, I don't know if you all saw, but the other night I was watching the local news here in Seattle, and one station featured an iReport! It was really cool! |
October 29, 2009 |
@ALLYALL
Trevor here - checking in from Mbabane, Swaziland. Hope all is well for everyone.
Loving the new design...but nearly impossible to explore with this severely-slow internet connection.
Hoping to post another vid from Swaziland within the next month, and then look out for some iReports from Bangladesh! |
October 29, 2009 |
@alisonv -- We don't look at the political stance of an iReport when we decide whether to vet it. Obviously we want to be fair, so we try to represent all sides of an issue.
That doesn't mean it has to be 50-50. If the sentiment on the site is 3 to 1 against, we'll try to reflect that when we're vetting iReports.
October 29, 2009 |
@zdan, good thanks. it's a lot of fun, this week is a little slow in the world of social media but it's still fun! it's a good job! |
October 29, 2009 |
nsaidi: The reason I ask, is there is a security hole in certain flash documents if allowed to be uploaded. Where I could start uploading ads, picture, etc.., into the main pages, post, and set my own code into your servers' functions... more my curiosity than anything else. |
October 29, 2009 |
Ryn - There are many things we can do with a simple point and shoot camera. I used a point and shoot up until January. I just think it would be great to include some technical challenges that can help everyone learn a bit more about photography. Regardless of the equipment they use. |
October 29, 2009 |
@maddogza Glad to have you here. Hope things are nice in Swaziland!
@nealmoore Good to hear from you! Happy paddling! |
October 29, 2009 |

@katie and @nsaidi My blog will be linked on 11Alive website. And yes I will be doing CNN I Reports too. |
October 29, 2009 |

Hi All. Really really late..will read and catch up. Major bummer
October 29, 2009 |
Thank you, Tyson. |
October 29, 2009 |

Did anyone take a look as to why links to websites such as The Toronto International Film Festival don't work on the iReport site? |
October 29, 2009 |
Gypsy I am all for that! Guess I need to get out the old manual. I am open and ready to learn |
October 29, 2009 |
Took me a while to figure out the new layout but I like it. Congrats folks. And thanks to the ireport team for sending the CNN editorial team my way for their upcoming tailgating story. Hopefully I gave them some good tips on outdoor cooking. |

Ryn. ;o) Love you. |

@SmokeInDaEye -- Glad you and Steve finally got together. |

any new assignments coming out this week? |
October 29, 2009 |
davidw; hope you received my email. |
October 29, 2009 |
Thanks David. I have thought about interviewing some Italians about Berlusconi because I think CNN has been giving him a LOT of positive publicity. He says that the affection Italians have for him is "embarrassing". That is NOT what I hear every day. I think people in the States don't understand that in Italy you don't vote for the person, you vote for various parties and then the winning parties choose the person. But I don't want to spend a lot of energy on a project like that if there is no way it will ever be shown. I have just noticed that they tend to go unvetted. |
October 29, 2009 |

Hello @EWillies1961 |
October 29, 2009 |

@seeitnow Where in Central America are you going? I'm very jealous! I love Central & South America! I hope you have a fun and safe trip! |
October 29, 2009 |
1st time participating - I work 60 hrs a week, on vacation. My question, please, is on the use of photo in a venue or stadium where the location, the team, the artist, etc has allowed camera's (For Exmple, U2 - We called before we left - cameras were allowed). This is called "Fair Use" - But I am continually being told shots inside the venue cant be vetted. Why, When the venue and the performers allowed camera' and photo? Good afternoon everyone! |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheWarden - I did, much appreciated. Glad you're getting up to full speed. |
October 29, 2009 |
@seeitnow, you heading back to Costa Rica? |
October 29, 2009 |
Congrats adriana71. |
October 29, 2009 |

@ChrisMorrow - No experience with that model of camera, but I love my Rebel XSi. It takes great pictures and it's not too cumbersome. |

Hi VideoMan. |
October 29, 2009 |

I'll be going to Scotland at the end of next week. Anything you'd like me to photograph while I'm there? ;o) |
October 29, 2009 |
Congrats Adriana |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi EWillies! How are you? |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheVideoMan -- Shots from venues are really hard because some artists and venues are cool about it and others are really not. Some venues/bands also restrict what CNN can use even if cameras are allowed, since it is commercial use.
We have to run things like that past our legal team. |
October 29, 2009 |
Virtualization.., Cloud.., on server??? anyone??? |
October 29, 2009 |
@ChrisMorrow - I've been using the new Nikon D5000 on my trip and couldn't be happier. Would look into it before making your purchase... |
October 29, 2009 |
ActuallY I'm going to try and find the worlds only fresh water shark in Nicaragua (next door to Costa Rica). Then I am going to go botanical hunting with a former US Marine who now lives in CR and organizes trips into the jungle with researchers from around the world looking for plant based medicines to cure various diseases.
Much Metta to all

I need my 1st question answered, but just an FYI: We too are leaving to battle the crowds in LA for a H1N1 shot. I will file an ireport on it! |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi Alison, trying to stay busy. If you see a cooking video it means business is slow:) |
October 29, 2009 |
Is it okay to use a song in a slideshow if we have the artists permission?? |
October 29, 2009 |
see it now...what is "metta"? Pardon my ignorance! |
October 29, 2009 |
Hi alisonv, that sounds like a very cool piece! We love seeing international issues highlighted on iReport, and we also love it when people interview other people.
I took a look at the last iReport you did on Berlusconi and you narrated a lot of great points on that video. However, the sound is played on footage of a TV screen. My gut instinct is upping the ante by going out into the world to capture this story would definitely get producers' attention. Slice of life pieces are a personal favorite of mine and you've done a great job with those in the past. |
October 29, 2009 |
davidw: That bring up something I also was curious about. If we get IPR for a project -- say for a song -- that is on an uploaded project, do we send that legal to you for verification? If so where? |
October 29, 2009 |
EW, I'd like to see a cooking video from you!
October 29, 2009 |
@nealmore does it do video?
Looking for an all-in-one system. |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheWarden passing along your cloud tech question to our developers - try to get an answer to you soon. |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheWarden -- Whoever vets the story can deal with getting the information to our legal folks.
October 29, 2009 |
@everyone -- Also, if you do want to use music, I would encourage you to save footage that doesn't have the music track. Sometimes we would really like to have the background sound in the video -- it can really add to a story. |
October 29, 2009 |
@ChrisMorrow - it does video but I haven't tried it yet. There's a good review on C-net and I believe they put it at the top of the heap for the mid-range all-in-ones... |

Hi Allisonv and Chris! Chris, are you covering your 1st Kings game up there? |
October 29, 2009 |
@everyone Thank you. It's going to be very cool. |
October 29, 2009 |
davidw: Ok so, I just got IPR for Rick James' song, but how would anyone know that, or know to ask that I have that? What's the actual process. The vetter is suppose to ask me? Via email, phone etc..? |
October 29, 2009 |
Nsaidi, I will be glad to do it if those things are acceptable. The visuals are just several of the many CNN specials on him lately since I didn't have any photos of Berlusconi that belong to me, personally! I think it would be interesting to do something, but looking over all my iReports, I realized that NONE have been used when they personally call someone out on something - no matter how well documented. I just wanted to be sure it isn't something that you all just don't want to use. I'll see what I can do then. Thanks |

Hi everyone!! |
October 29, 2009 |
ty: Thanks |
October 29, 2009 |
Davidw - Okay to use music with artist's permission? What's the procedure? |
October 29, 2009 |
@JoyfulGypsy -- Should be OK to upload, and then we would look into it on our end. |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheWarden -- If we were going to approve something with music, we would ask. CNN can also decide to run a piece silent if they can't use the music. |
October 29, 2009 |
Thanks Nealmoore!
October 29, 2009 |
Warden, I'd like to see an iReport with Rick James music!! |
October 29, 2009 |
ok silly, yet serious question. i know you have a game room there at work, but do you guys have a ping-pong table? I'm in need of some ping pong advice! haha |
October 29, 2009 |
Thank you, nsaidi and davidw. |
October 29, 2009 |
Hey KC! |
October 29, 2009 |
@KyleHD haha, unfortunately not! We have a foosball table, but don't get to play on it nearly as much as we should. Do you have a ping pong table at work? |
October 29, 2009 |
@KyleHD -- No pingpong table anymore. We don't get up there much any more. Too busy vetting awesome iReports.
October 29, 2009 |
@Chris - cheers! @TheWarden -- I've been working with music recently. Asked the ex. director of the Blues Foundation this question and he said it officially comes down to a certain number of seconds... but the legal folks can deal with it, as y'all have pointed out... |
October 29, 2009 |

@alisonv I've always felt the best news stories and iReports are those that tell a great story or give a personal perspective (and tell a story). Something our producers here always ask me is, "What's the story that you're trying to tell?" I think approaching an issue from that perspective can put things in focus. If you have a viewpoint, what is the effect or outcome of the thing that you have a viewpoint on? Telling that effect and making it possible for other folks to incorporate this story into their own worldview can make for some very powerful iReporting. Does all my rambling make any sense? |
October 29, 2009 |
DavidW, again on vetting Photo. For example, I was told by my producer that he could use Photos of Jay Leno in concert. Why Jay Leno - but not others? And, if no photo is allowed, it shows on the ticket, the website, and it is posted on the wesite. Most venues out here allow photo. This process needs to be cleared up. Plus, I specialize in the entertainment and sports beat. When I shoot a major sporting events - inside or outside - they rarely get vetted. I wish CNN had more of a sports presence! |
October 29, 2009 |
davidw. I'm sorry let me try to be a bit more clear. I haven't known from my personal experience, or anyone elses where a music track requiring IPR was ever used, or vetted. I assumed they are automatically dismissed becasue of it. True?
So true, could be footage of a NFL game, where some people actually have the rights to distribute accounts/ footage of the game, but how would you ever know that?
This is what I mean. Is there really a system in place for that in your structure? Or is just, as it comes and it's assumed nobdy has those legals covered? |
October 29, 2009 |
I wish I could say, but work is calling.
Same time next week?
Have a great day, everyone. Adios. |
October 29, 2009 |
@katie, we do and I am not so good, I was hoping for some advice! haha
@davidw actually working at work? who would have thought!? hahaI hear ya though! |

October 29, 2009 |
Katie Tell us about the Halloween project, sounds like fun |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheVideoMan I think CNN uses Sports Illustrated they are both owned by Time Warner... I think. |
October 29, 2009 |
@alisonv -- We often don't vet stories where people post a photo of the political figure that they got off of google or a newspaper, unless there is high interest in the story.
It's just hard to find a way to include those sorts of reports in CNN coverage.
I would encourage you to post your commentary along with a picture of yourself, or with a video explaining your position. |
October 29, 2009 |
Nsaidi, yes, that makes sense. It's sometimes hard for me to do things as the news is breaking because I work so many hours during the week and on Saturdays and I like to actually edit. I suppose that is a problem for all iReporters--we have our day jobs! But I do think, with all due respect, that CNN's coverage of Silvio Berlusconi has glossed over some very serious problems he is causing in this country. The politicians here have unbelievable perks and salaries and the people of Italy really are having a harder and harder time making ends meet. |

@thevideoman -
This is my rule for shooting events/arenas
If I am working an event I always contact the media department to get permission. If I don't have permission from them directly I don't shoot. |
October 29, 2009 |
@KyleHD - No ping pong, but we have a four lane slotcar track here. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. :) |
October 29, 2009 |
OK, nevermind about the legal... it's really not important... |
October 29, 2009 |
@Ryn I've edited photos of some of the best extreme Halloween homes to some creepy music, so the users can take virtual tours of the homes. We got some great submissions and it was so fun to work with! |
October 29, 2009 |
One more question: I shot the world premier of "This Is It" at LA Live in LA. When I went to the "Movie Page" last night, nothing on "This Is It" was there. CNN please needs to update that page when a major film is released on a Wednesday! All the films featured on the page were still from last week! Rajiim and I also specialize in Movie Reviews - that page needs to be updated for new releases on weekdays... |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheVideoMan -- I'm not sure of those specific cases. I know we approved the interviews you did with the U2 tailgaters and passed them on to our entertainment folks. |
October 29, 2009 |
David, actually it was video taken from CNN's reports mainly. I'll see what I can work out. |

Adios, Wausau |
October 29, 2009 |
@TheVideoMan -- I know our entertainment folks still have some stuff up their sleeves on "This Is It" |
October 29, 2009 |
@alisonv -- That last point you made sounds like the beginning of a great story:
"The politicians here have unbelievable perks and salaries and the people of Italy really are having a harder and harder time making ends meet."
The trick now is to find a way to tell that story... I bet producers would dig it. |

nealmoore: I'm familiar with the legal, I just don't know how they have it structured here to know when a person has those rights it what I was after.
I get it now, as it comes...and we'll see what happens sort of thing. |

Hi all. Jumping in with a couple answers to technical questions. TheWarden asked about image and video processing, here are some details:
Q: With images, when your system receives and processes, are you:
1. Standardizing the image size/quality? (video or photo) Yes. Images are processed to a set of standard .jpg sizes. Same with video, all are converted to a consistent .flv audio and video codec, size, bitrate.
2. Translating it into a stadard file type?( " " ) See above, .jpg for images, .flv for videos. Other formats are generated for broadcast and mobile applications.
3. What are the server restrictions concerning downloading to viewers to keep server from crashing Viewable content is published to a cdn network in order to handle high volumes of traffic.
4. Are you using Vitualization technology on the servers? If you are talking about virtual machines, the answer is yes and no. There are many different server roles used to make iReport work and only certain roles are appropriate for this type of server technology.

@KyleHD - well yep ... family monkey business ... :) |

nsaidi I would like to see the whole ireport team dressed up for Halloween and post a photo on iReport |

Hi Chris, having lived in LA since 1973, I can guarentee that that the Angles and Dodgers allow all, unlimited, photo without "writtten" permission. It is considered "fair use". Now the Lakers also allow all photo, but no lenses over 3.5 in. Now remember, we are talking all the general fan areas. Of coarse, special permission is required in the closed area's: The locker rooms, etc. Now we do not have an NFL team - so I cant comment on that sport. I hear they have got real strict - and it has made the fans extremely mad! |

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone! |

pbethany: Really happy you jumped in. Thank you for your answers. Make it clear what should be produced, and what shouldn't. High quality stuff should obviously be avoided as it won't appear at that quality, this info was invaluable.
Cloud Tech however, vitualization. Kinda answered it kinda not.
Best way to explain is go to vmware.com and read about what I'm saying.
There are very, very few server types I'm aware of that cannot utlize this tech. It also answers speed, upload, mobile, remote and vitual device questions for me, so thanks you so, so much. I really never expected an answer....THANK YOU! |

Hi & Goodby - David W: If you see this later: I was talking about the shots I took of U2 inside the Rose Bowl. I was told those could not be used. Thanks for answering my questions! |

4 of 10 answered, I appreciate it, again, thanks.
The one I would really like answered if anyone could ever get to it, is the link to the Toronto International Film Festival problem on one of my stories. This has me stumped.
Hope someday it will be, thanks again. |

adriana71: ...yeah, that's probably true... |

Hi Warden, yes, i kind of answered the cloud question and kind of didn't and prefer to leave it that way. Cloud computing is great stuff and is getting used more and more these days in high volume applications. |
October 29, 2009 |
I totally understand. I wouldn't answer it all the way either for obvious reasons.
You've given me enough to know how to produce more effectively and I really thank you for that. First time I've had these sort of issues truly addressed, I'm flabergasted and completely grateful.
If you ever get the chamce to let me know about the Toronto Internationally Film Festival issue for the link on my La Soga post, that would be great. Just has me stumped as to how to get it to work.
Have a good weekend and thanks for answering my question so effectively, I'm good for a year now...lol... |

Honestly, I looked at that link and it looked perfectly ok but sure enough it did not work. Some html nuance i'm guessing. When we get a minute to breath I plan to have someone look at why. |

When I click on ireports it tages ages to come on, and when I come to the end of a page and have to open a new ireport of an ireporter I have to start all at the begining to cruise about, I cannot press the back button as it wont go there, hence I have to start all over at the begining, most of my pictures dont get uploaded also. |

I work for a company that fields calls for Medicare. Many thousands daily! Our Medicare beneficiaries are already being hit with the backlash of costly insurance company's policies, be they Medicare Advantage Plans or standalone Prescription Drug Plans. These companies are already telling their members they are dropping member's coverage altogether or to expect an increase of double, triple or more their current premiums and drug costs. Members are switching plans just as fast as can be! To no avail in the end as we are seeing it in the battlefield.
Be responsible reporters by asking politicians what they are going to do to protect our seniors from these heartless actions by insurance companies. Find out who will be paying these increases in premiums and drug costs from an industry many politicians already have in their pockets. Seniors say they can't do more, a 100% senior attitude towards affordability! 44,000,000 voices should be loud enough to hear from anywhere in the country! |
