In Honduras ,a small central American country, we try to live in
Democratic way, but its so sad to see that everything around us is
so corrupt. Recently UNAH, the public university, and formerly its
students found out about a treaty that the president, Mel Zelaya,
signed with the Cardenal of Honduras for the catholic church, in
which the cardenals university, Catholic University UNICAH, can use
all of the public health system for their medical and dental
students, this means that the UNAH which is a public entity is
being reduced with sites for its health students to practice and to
do research, and UNICAH is NOT paying anything for this which lead
to a big scam, why did they signed this unlawfull treaty.
To start this long story they, the signers, did it behind the
minister of health of the country, whom recently resigned because
she knew it was corrupt and just couldnt take it. So the president
gave the position to the guy who signed the treaty, whom in my
perspective is responsable for the crisis we are living.
Since the students knew about all the preferences the UNICAH
students had over the UNAH students and that they were literally
taking the public students spots, went to strike, which now has
been about a month, which has the medical system in crisis because
the UNAH students provide so much of the workforce for this system
in the country.
Now it seems as if we in Honduras havent changed from where
the Church has control over the Goverment, or why is this treaty
not cancelled? There are so many questions unanswered and
corruption is in many of the answers.
Hence I feel so sad and in deception with the authorities,
the president and also with Mr. Cardenal. And why is a private
institution using public facilities to make money of their
students(UNICAH), and why are they taking the little facilities of
a public entity (UNAH) is this segregation? You tell me, because I
dont know what to think about democracy and justice here in this
country.
