Haboob sandstorm
October 5, 2008 | Sudan | Vetting explained
my name is Abdurrahman Jaafar Idris and I live in Omdurman, Sudan.
Today 05 OCT @ about 6:30 PM local time, a friend called me from Khartoum and informed me about a huge sandstorm covering Khartoum and heading towards Omdurman. I immediatly went upstairs to the top of the building and ran the interesting attached shot.
you can see the sandstorm looks like a mountain of sand approaching the house until it covered it. Locals here called this sandstorm "haboob". Huge storms like this usualy come once a year. However, there are too many sandstorms.

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
on air, or on any of CNN's platforms.
