MMA's Gina Carano Kimbo Slice Loses, again: Watching the EliteXC card yesterday with Kimbo Slice vs Seth Petruzelli as the 'Main Event' made me give thanks to the inventor of the DVR. Wow, it was really bad. I hit the FF button more times than I rewound or paused fights. And that's not a good sign. Listening to an announcer proclaim Seth Petruzelli's victory over Kimbo Slice as the greatest in MMA history made me shut it off right there. Didn't even bother to watch the replay. The only match that was fun last night was Gina Carano v Kelly Kobold. These two showed heart and fought like the old Dan Severn and Royce Gracie days. The Kimbo hype is over. He's just another Tank Abbott now. The UFC cannot keep pumping out $50 dollar events every single month and expect viewers to keep forking it over. Tito Ortiz might join Elite? Who cares? Who would the 'Bad Boy' fight? Maybe Ortiz v Carano would be interesting....but any other match....I don't think so. MMA is at a crossroads. The UFC needs to take a step back. Stop the monthly output glut. Maybe put out a Ultimate Ultimate type night where they have 4-5 fights with 7-10 champs, ex-champs, or known guys and ladies fight. Yes, Randy Couture v Brock Lesnar is a good fight but it is similar to what was supposed to be the Slice v. SHAMrock event. A very old fighter v. a younger fighter with no real track record. Elite XC is an afterthought now. Do you really watch any of the garbage on the HD channels? It's up to the UFC to stop thinking more is better and put out a high quality card - be it on PPV or prime time TV - and make me care to watch again. _Bob Mantz http://www.bobsblitz.com/
