come on... for the kids...
I found this and it made me cry- having lived through hurricane
Katrina this really touched my heart deeply. Apparently this letter
was written and sent along with a small contribution to the Obama
campaign. The young boy who wrote the letter eventually got put in
touch with Obama through a radio host named Michael Baisden and was
able to speak with Barack personally. If you are still undecided...
please... make the right choice for our children. Give them an
America they can be proud of.
11 year old Christian Adams' Letter To Senator Obama:
Dear Senator Obama,
My name is Christian Adams, I'm 11 years old, and I live in
Alexandria, LA. I won't be able to vote in this election or in your
re-election in 2012, but I wanted you to know how much I support
you and your beliefs. In 2009 there will be a President who will
listen and take seriously what I have to say, knowing that the
decisions he makes today will affect kids like me the most in the
future.
The only President I have ever known is George W. Bush. Unlike
him, I can really see that you care for the things that affect the
future of me and my family! I am planning to go to college and
someday maybe even become a Senator, but I worry about how I will
pay for college. I have three brothers so college costs are also a
really big worry for my mom and step-dad.
Our family is an average family, but I know my parents worry
about paying for the high costs of doctors and medicines that all
of us need. It makes me wonder how the people I met while going
door to door campaigning for a local candidate for mayor, who live
in the poorest parts of my city, are surviving. Some of them didn't
have air-conditioning in the summer when I met them, but they could
at least sit outside. What are they doing now that it's winter?
They probably have to choose between heat, groceries, or medicine
and that's not right!
Last year, my step-dad and I walked in the Jena 6 March in Jena,
LA. I went not because I thought the boys involved shouldn't be
punished for what they did, but because I wanted them to be treated
fairly no matter what the color of their skin was. I also went to
be a part of modern history and see what it felt like to march for
what you believe in, just like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and
others did for civil rights. I think you are today's MLK! I am
interested in this election and in our government because you are
asking me to be. No national leader in my lifetime has asked me to
do that.
But I would like for you to promise me one thing. As President,
please help the city of New Orleans get rebuilt. Don't just say you
will like President Bush did and then disappear. The city is still
not in very good shape, especially the parts around the 9th Ward.
There are places where homes used to be and now they are just empty
houses or piles of junk. I really love that city and it is very
important to our whole state. I would hate to see a city I love not
repaired.
Senator Obama, I have put a $10.00 money order in this envelope.
I know that campaigns cost a lot of money, so I hope this little
bit helps. I got this money by doing my chores around the house,
but I want you to have it. I will be in Washington, D.C. in March
with the People to People program, but my step-dad has promised me
that
we will go back in January to watch your Inauguration. Good luck
with the campaign!
Sincerely,
Christian Adams
