Like most of America, I tuned into the second presidential debate,
and like most Americans; I have a plethora of opinions. First of
all, I will admit, John McCain seemed to be in his element in the
chosen setting. He also appeared comfortable and even personable at
times.
However; Barack Obama continues to upstage McCain despite his
efforts. It seems to me McCain is becoming increasingly frustrated
with Obama's lead in the polls. We saw evidence of this tonight
when McCain referred to Obama as "that one", this reference was
offensive, unnecessary and highly inappropriate. At the end of the
debate when Obama attempted to shake McCain's hand, McCain refused,
more evidence of frustration and the ultimate of crudeness.
Moreover, while Barack and Michelle Obama remained on the stage
with audience participants to converse further; it seemed John and
Cindy McCain couldn't find the exit fast enough. This would be
deemed rude by most accounts.
John McCain seems intent on languishing in the past with
references to Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, and of course his
years as a prisoner of war approximately forty years ago. I
honestly believe most would concede McCain was a great patriot;
however, now is the time to forge ahead with vigor, sans references
to the past. Afterall, the past administration directly reflects
the shambles of this country, as we all know.
Furthermore, I believe the time has come to cease equating
Christians to Republicans. Both John McCain and Sarah Palin claim
to be Christians; however, aside from their views on abortion and
marriage they continue to exhibit behaviour that does not support
this claim. Of course, I am not disputing whether or not they are
Christians, simply making the point that church and state should
remain separate. Why drag Christianity into what has become a
vicious smear campaign?
For those planning to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket
because they ostensibly share the same Christian principles; delve
further into the rhetoric these two candidates are spewing. Perhaps
you will agree there are fundamental Christian principles lacking.
In November vote for the best candidate, Barack Obama, and keep in
mind that a vote for John McCain places Sarah Palin a "heartbeat"
away from President of the United States of America. The thought
alone is the epitome of petrifying!
