Guiding principles my grandfather passed on...
October 9, 2008 | Atlanta, Georgia | Vetting explained
(When trouble is lurking at the door....)
My grandfather, born in 1898, was an established small business man by 1929, owning and managing a gas station and grill patronized by the mill workers. As his children and grandchildren grew into adulthood, he reminded us of some guiding principles that he learned during the depression.
1. Always do the right thing
2. Take care of the customer
3. Pay attention to details
4. Know the people with whom you are doing business
5. NEVER borrow money without a clear plan for how you will pay it back.
Aside from the nice estate that was divided at his death in 1987, my grandfather gave our family a most great gift of wise advice.

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
on air, or on any of CNN's platforms.
