People, start storing away some money in the event you lose your 401K. Nobody past yourself, those who depend on you and maybe your dog/cat really care if you have something to live on. All that will be said is: "it is his fault for not saving" or "the signs were there early in October, that person should have taken their money out of the bank or some of it at least". I am not saying sell sell sell, what I am saying is your job, house, credit rating, mortgage, car payment or social position is not safe unless you have cash cash cash on hand. Right now, I would not depend on any bank to have your cash past 1000.00 if you needed it. I would not depend that your boss cares if you are employed just as much as you could really care less if your boss is employed just so long as you are. What really matters is what you can do if things go south fast. Can you put cash on the table and say this is what we need to live on this winter (COLD in the North -- Chilly in the South). If you have CD's approaching maturity, cash them in, put the money in the family safe until June 2009 then re-evaluate your liquidity position. I work at a major university near Chicago and my job is not safe; however, it is safer than those at Booz Allen or other Corporate places.

If you want to sell sell sell then fine, take your CASH, put it in your safe at home and reinvest later because this is your warning shot, the next one might hit you in a spot that will make you and your responsibilities sink.
Save save save money people.... I hope I am not the chicken saying the sky is falling.
The Dow is up and down, banks are just getting by and unemployment is at or around 7%. Companies are getting a flood pump to save them from sinking while the average Joe/Jane are getting a tea cup to help cope. Forclosures are at an all time high with blame going both ways, banks are failing, mortgage houses are falling or being sold off, 401K's are looking more and more like 10k's,
I hope that the gooverment decides to help their people with money in their pockets, to help keep their homes, retirments, health insurances, jobs... what will they do? What will we do with it? There should be a statment that it is not meant to fund the family get-away to Jamacia.
