Iowa Stilt-A-Thon
After learning how to walk on stilts this past summer, several kids in our Mason City neighborhood decided to put their talents to work. They held a stilt-a-thon for the United Way of North Central Iowa and its flood relief efforts.
Approximately 10 kids walked for an hour around a city block- raising more than $400 through pledges.
Our goal was to instill in them at an early age that we all have talents- no matter what our age. And we all can get involved and make a difference in our communities.
Last June, severe flooding caused millions of dollars in damage to homes and businesses in Mason City, Iowa. 177 homeowners in Mason City have applied to take part in a federal buyout program.
