"Fireproof" is on fire!... very good movie
This is another great flick put out by the Kendrick brothers
through Sherwood Pictures. My husband and I just saw it last night
and were very moved. We own their prior two releases, "Flywheel"
and "Facing the Giants", but always want to judge their next on
it's own merits. If we are being honest from a critical standpoint,
we felt it started off a little forced or scripted in the first few
scenes. We kind of looked at each other and said this may be a
little on the cheesy side. But, shortly after, the film got in it's
groove and we were hooked. From an overall standpoint, you can
definitely see the growth and improvement with each movie the
Kendricks' have put out. They are really beginning to hone in on
their respective talents in putting these movies together. I can
see them rivaling against the Tyler Perry series with respect to
quality movies with a message.
As far as storyline, they were right on the money with the
challenges of marriage. Just last year with only 4 1/2 years of
marriage under our belt, my husband was diagnosed with brain and
spinal cancer. I can tell you the strains that a cancer battle puts
on a marriage, especially a young couple in their twenties, is
unimaginable. And I can understand why many times the healthy
spouse gets so overwhelmed that they need out. It is extremely
difficult to watch your loved one in pain and you get in your head
how unfair life has become for you as well. You then question why
you must continue to endure this and think how easy it would be to
say "no more". Cancer can easily trigger this thought process as
can many other ordeals. The poison is how much you allow your heart
and mind to entertain those thoughts. Needless to say we could
relate to the movie with regard to the time, energy and pain
involved in sticking it out when "for better or worse" hits.
Fortunately, we have made it through our own ordeal, and with the
grace and love of God in the middle of our marriage, have grown
even closer as a result.
Anyways, this isn't meant to be about our ordeal. I can say
with certainty that this movie hits the mark with it's message, and
the caliber of production, I feel, was on par with many other
Hollywood counterparts. You get laughs, you get cries and you leave
entertained. Keep up the Lord's good work Kendrick brothers!
