iReport —
16 October 2008 - NY, NY The internet's lovable vigilante group Anonymous has shown up on Broadway yet again. This time to greet Katie as she opened the 2008 re-creation of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" starring John Lithgow and Diane Wiest. Despite earlier media claims that the group was there to protest the show, attendees of last night's protest claimed they were not protesting Katie, Broadway or even Scientology as a religion. What they were protesting are the abuses within the church. One sign read "Religion is no excuse for abuse!" covered in images of Tom's infamous wrist-grab. Members of the church accused Anonymous of threatening them and attempting to incite violence. Though an FBI investigation reported "no evidence of these alleged crimes or threats could be found" the members of the church insist that Anonymous is simply anti-religious. Anonymous members disagree with this assesment pointing out that just because people speak out against unethical practices within a religion (such as priests who molest children) it does not mean they are protesting against the entire faith. In fact, many members of the local NYC Anonymous chapter are former church members who speak out because they want to protect and help people who are currently in from being harmed and lied to as they were. Celebrities like Jason Beghe and Tom Berenger have since left the church and chosen to speak out against the abuses they suffered and lies they were told when recruiters first approached them. Beghe claims the purpose of Scientology is to create a "brainwashed, robotic version of you." For more information, Anonymous members recommended reading stories from http://www.exscientologykids.com or posts from former Scientology members on http://www.xenu.net.
