iReport —
I hear more and more people leap willingly on the bandwagon of "Obama's a Socialist!", amidst some other not-very-kind accusations. Is he? Let's take a look: . He wants to increase government budgets for services intended for the public trust. The only way to do that is be raising taxes. The taxes collected are then redistributed to these programs and, in turn, to those who use them. Okay, that can be seen as a Socialist mindset. What else? . "Spreading the wealth" around but taxing those who make more and lessening the burden on those who make less? Yes, okay. . So, these Socialistic ideas are wholly Democratic ideals, yes? Not quite... . Easily as "Socialist" as the above examples would be a trickle-down economy, Bailout, and other instances where McCain and the Republican party have fought so hard to maintain. In fact, some say that Bush's own mandates and actions through the Republican party have actually hastened Socialism in America. How? Check out this commentary by R Lee Wrights entitled "Republican Party hastens the growth of Socialism: http://www.libertyforall.net/?p=1086 . What's the difference between Democratic Socialism and Republican Socialism? One word, and it's another ‘ism': Fascism. . The Republican party, despite its mantra of "smaller government" has also pushed power though military, one of the core foundations of Fascism. No, we are not a Fascist society, but there are some rather disturbing trends that have appeared over the past 10 years or so. Now, according to Websters: . Fascism: A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. . Can anyone look back on the McCain/Palin race and not see how it fits into this description? Further still, Fascism is a dictatorship. We don't have a dictator, we have a president, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD3xfT0c99g&feature=related . Okay... but McCain's not like Bush, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvqAYW3AV0g&feature=related . Hmmm. Well... . I hope that those accusing Obama of Socialism stop and realize that he is no more a Socialist than his Republican competitor. The difference is Obama has never stated he wants to be a dictator. In fact, he wants to give more support to the people, not suppress them even more. . In the end, whether you believe this or not is entirely up to you. Some suspect McCain will steal this election like Bush did. I say no, it won't work out that way for one simple reason: Bush had to win the election, at any cost. Why? Read http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-122272 to find out. . Peace
