My Father
November 10, 2008 | Syracuse, New York | Vetting explained
Good morning! I'm writing to tell you about my father, Raymond Sprague nicknamed Wessel, and the Vietnam War. He is a hero with many awards. He spent one whole year on the front lines. He was also a tunnel rat, point man, and squad leader. He is the bravest man I know.
He has so many awards I'm not even sure what they all are. The ones I do know are 2 Bronz Stars, Award of The Army Commendation with Valor, Vietnam Service Medal, 2 OS Bars, Expert M16, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, and National Defense Medal. There are others I'm just not sure what they are. He did three champaigns: Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
I wanted to put his pictures and story out because my father is a war hero and I'm so honored to call him Dad. I can only wish that my two sons grow up to be as brave as him.
Thank you for letting me tell his story.
Renee

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
on air, or on any of CNN's platforms.
