I agree the big 3 will be devastating to this economy but can we truly help them. Listen, a company called the Lehman Brothers fell around the 12th of September. After which Bush gets on saying Armegeddon in the financial industry will be here if we don't bail the banks out. Lehman brothers is at least 4 times larger than GM, and was 150 years or so old. They said it was a mistake to let them fall (hindsight 20/20).

I live in Michigan and my father and grandfather both worked for GM. The reason why I think it would be better for them to fall is because of the legacy tax that GM/Ford/Chrysler has to pay. Which is the UAW or union for the car industry. The big 3 can't afford this destructive path they've been on and with the failure of Lehman Bro's. It's impossible, by us, to save them. If the big 3 were to file for bankruptcy protection from this UAW they maybe could come out the other side better than before, and maybe we could afford to by a new car.

Now, I know, there are people who are big UNION fans. I say your not to bright. You pay these people (UNION) to keep you working, yet let's say you get laid off. What happens? You, still have to pay your union dues/fees. Then wait in line after all the seniority workers comes first. Even the seniority is laid off.  So now you have to go picket at your work, or at a place that has scabs (people who aren't in the union) working instead of you. What does your dues and fees cover. They are the ones suppose to fight for YOU. You pay them then you fight for your own jobs. Even destroy the scab's equipment or do bodily harm for crossing the picket line. It's ridiculous. A union don't give you the right to stop people from hiring and firing other people. Most companies are barely hanging on to their company, let alone having to pay fees, fines, and destruction of their property if they don't join the union. The 1st amendment gives you the right to meet PEACEFULLY and FREE SPEECH against what you believe is right or wrong, not the forcing of your rights onto other people and keeping them from working. I say "stand on the grass not in the entrance way.  The union fights to get you raises. In doing this the union makes more money. The union gets a % of your money every week and the more you make the more they make. In the long run this becomes unaffordable to the company. The big 3 is paying right now around $75 per full compensation per hour per employee because of the union never being satisfied. So listen, when the company has to pay the employees more money the product costs more money. When the consumers can't afford the product, the company falls. If you ask me, $75 per full compensation per hour to put on lug nuts is a bit high. The other companies are paying around $48 per full compensation per hour. No doubt they pay this much because of the pay competition from the big 3. Full compensation is all the benefits, like retirement, 401k, pensions, and health insurance +  your wage. It becomes a vicious circle of loss.

I feel to save this economy is to start from the bottom because the poor is our foundation. Without a foundation our economy is like a building built on sand. It will keep shifting down a slippery slope. By removing the high cost of being poor, would help out this economy more than any of us could know, and wouldn't hurt any one of us. Charging the poor more for everything from food to healthcare. From mortgage rates to cashing a check. The fees are so outrageous to cash a payroll check. If you make less than $30,000 a year your interest rates on any kind of loan is always more. This wouldn't hurt any 1 of us. It could only help.  So when I say to get rid of the union I'm not trying to help out the big 3 by paying us less, but I know there has to be a balance between having a company being able to afford the help and the costomer paying for the product and the employee having a wage that isn't minimum wage, but a living wage. The federal gov't minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. This is disgraceful! No one can live on this, let alone have an American Dream. More like an American Nightmare. Yet most struggle every day on this. The federal/State govt tried and failed to live on what the majority live off of. The living wage right now is around $16 per hour just so you could have and take care of a family of 3. Thats not including health care. That's just being able to get a home and pay the bills. Nothing special extra. This is just on average. Not everyplace could you live off this. Someplaces more and some less.

Lets get this straight if you are a UAW member you have to pay a union due and give a % of your paycheck to it. You can't refuse this membership and work for the company. So this is a forced tax upon the person wanting employment.

Healthcare is crippling the big 3 also. George Bush has vetoed the health care coverage for children that the Senate Finance Committee approved in 2007. He said that government shouldn't be involved in health coverage. That privatization is the best way in a free market. We can see it crippling the 3 and we see the government surely don't want to help. So what do we do. The health care crisis is soooo much bigger of a problem than this economic crisis and will be a loss of so many lives I hate thinking about it. We have to come up with a way that allows us to prevent these diseases that are affecting so many of us. High blood pressure, diabetes, parkinsons, alzheimers, heart attacks and strokes. But we in America like to wait until it hits us in the face before we scramble even to think about it. We have to think about it now. We must demand this from our government. My pet can get a premium health insurance for about $33 a month. I think if my pet can get this maybe we should be able to get something like is and force the insurances to accept us under any precondition. This isn't the problem of people who can't afford to be sick. This is a problem of any one who has insurance that thinks they can afford it and finds out that the insurance denies you because you forgot to mention on your work application that you had a yeast infection when you was a teenager. These insurance companies employ of 400,000 people to DENY your claims that, I feel, should be illegal. If the company takes your money you should be covered. No reading of the fine print should be allowed.

So I feel if we filed for bankruptcy, the union would be abolished. GM and the others should be able to hire people that are willing to work for a decent wage. The Government should pay for the health care of all and tax all the companies in America, that make a profit here, a % to pay for the universal health care system that is needed. Also, Stem-cell research would do a world of GOOD to help with unemployment and the health quality of all human life and it should be the most urgent thing that we should persue. With the persuit of stem-cell and the releasing of the burden of health care on the big three would help this economy.
