SAME SEX MARRIAGE DEBATE
November 16, 2008 | Los Angeles, California | Vetting explained
As we are all aware by now, proposition 8 passed, and now we are witnessing the backlash within the gay community. I am perplexed by the mass mayhem currently taking place. I don't recall hearing any outcry about Prop 8 being placed on the ballot, however, now that it has been enacted; we are hearing how unjust for it to have been included.
This is the second time the people of California have voted against same sex marriage. The only reason it passed, prior to November 4th, 2008, is because proper protocol was not followed. Now that same sex marriage is legitimately banned in California; those participating in various protests are inflicting violence, vandalism and verbal abuse on those who supported the ban. This is clearly unacceptable.
Those of us who voted in favor of Proposition 8, did so for many reasons; however, the most common among them is for faith based objectives. According to the bible; marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God and reserved for one man and one woman. Aside from companionship, support and sexual intimacy, marriage is designed for procreation. For various reasons many married heterosexuals do no procreate. Albeit, they are equipped with the anatomy designed to fit perfectly together in which to do so.
Additionally, children need the influence of both a man and woman where upbringing is regarded; bringing about the desired effect, a healthy and balanced individual. Because of the escalation of divorce (in secular and Christian communities), there is obviously a lack thereof, as evidenced in a broken and wayward generation with no direction. We are currently living in a dying culture which accepts what is wrong and rejects what is right. This is in no way an attack on those who divorce; in many circumstances this may be the only option, however, the effects cannot be denied.
According to the bible, God neither encourages nor advocates a gay lifestyle, yet He loves those immersed in it as much as He loves those of us who faithfully follow Him. It seems many spew hatred at the messenger, even though we are solely conveying God's truths, as Ambassadors of Christ. The conviction of same sex marriage for those of us who are bible believing Christians, is not spawned out of hatred, but instead by the desire to be aligned with God's will. Some day we will surely be accountable.
In fact, we will all be accountable to the Lord one day, whether or not we accept Him. The sum of two plus two equals four, just because one may insist the total is five, does not change that fact. The same is applicable to Judgement Day; unbelief in it, does not negate the fact it will happen, and perhaps sooner rather than later.
In addition, to compare gay rights to the civil rights movement is highly offensive. Thousands of blacks died purely because of the color of their skin. Thousands of blacks were not permitted to drink out of designated water fountains, sit in the front of buses, enter through specific doors, or patronize certain businesses simply because of the color of their skin. Not to mention those lynched as a result of being black.
Finally, I would surmise that if a gay person faced sure and certain death because of his/her sexual orientation, he/she would have the option of denying it. There was no such option for blacks during the civil rights movement as there is no denying one's skin color. The people have spoken and the majority do not support same sex marriage in California, and just as the gay community will crusade relentlessly for their beliefs, those of us on the other side will also crusade relentlessly for our beliefs.
