Last week a friend of mine died giving birth to a beautiful baby girl at Suzhou Children and Women Hospital. Her name is YanZi. Her death was due to botched operation that technically could have been reversed, but negligence went further. In most western worlds, malpractice leads to severe penalties, but in our case the doctor justifies himself by saying, "we spent 60K rmb in cost trying to save her life....", and then disappears for two days. What's more disturbing is how the hospital and the doctor proceeded with a cover up by delaying, possibly not allowing, the family to see the body. Yanzi was later found in a storage room alongside of bicycles, old appliances, and essentially junk in 19C temperature. A horrific sight. A lifeless body that just delivered a beuatiful, healthy baby girl. After two days, the Hospital Director finally spoke with a stinging tone, " we've done all we can and since this hospital is backed by the National Government we can offer you 200K Rmb." Is this the cost of a life in China? Time for a massive overhaul in China Hospitals.
