Dear CNN,
Congratulations for a great show. Very global.
My name is Ciprian, I am 25, and live in Bucharest, Romania.
I just want to let you know that there is a very popular programme,
sponsored by the US government, that allows students from all over
the world to spend their summer holiday in the US. Just google
"Work and Travel USA" and you'll find out all the details. As a
former participant I must tell you that this was an amaizing
experience, that ultimatley had a great contribution to who I am
today. There are some efforts you have to put into participating, (
you have to cover some costs, have grades over the average, paper
work ), and you end up doing jobs that maybe Discovery Channel
would promote under "World's Dirties Jobs". Me and my friends
worked for a laundry in Binghamton , NY, that had contracts with
all major summer camps on a 200 miles radius. We worked a lot of
hours, we also had a lot of parties, we visited a lot of places, we
made some good money, in one word we had a taste of the American
dream.
Now I work for an American company - UPS, have a nice steady
job, but unfortunatley I make less money now than I use to make
working as a student in the US for a laundry or McDonalds, but that
is just because life in Romania is very different than the one in
the US.
I have atached some pictures from the thousands we have made
in summer 2003 and 2004. There are a lot of stories to be told, a
lot of nice memories. Each year more and more students go to the
US, but nobody really shows their story. Maybe you can find out
more and show on Ireport how this all goes down.
Regards,
Ciprian
