'I prefer eating live lizards to chicken pepper soup'
Not only women shudder when a lizard crawls over their skin,
even men do. But a 23-year old man, for whom eating live lizards is
like eating a sumptuous feast, says he only feels well when he
devoured 20 or more lizards in a day, reports Jaafar Jaafar
If one wishes to watch some sort of bizarre spectacle,
without watching film or going to theatre for a circus, Mika'ilu
Danzaki Kurna is ever ready to make your day, especially when one
offers him a sachet of water. "A sachet of pure water eases my
digestion after eating live lizards," he said.
Mika'ilu is not mad, and is very sane like any other person,
he insisted. "I don't attack anybody or appear like a lunatic. Is
it because I enjoy eating live lizards?" He asked rhetorically.
All of Mika'ilu's pockets are filled to the brim with lizard.
He said that the logic behind 'hoarding the commodity' is for
eating in the night when the reptiles are out of sight. "You know
if I got enough to eat in the morning and afternoon for my
breakfast and lunch, I hardly get what to eat for supper. But if I
keep enough I wont starve," he explained.
He also said that once he frowns at a passing lizard it will
be hypnotized and lo. "You see, Allah (SWT) has endowed me with
some mystique power the reptiles and they so much fear me. If I fix
my gaze at lizard with grim face, it falls from the wall onto my
hand," said Mika'ilu.
Mika'ilu is so obsessed with lizards (especially agama
lizard), scorpions snails, snakes, chameleons and the rest. He said
that he catches them whenever he sees them and eats them on the
spot. "I eat live lizards, scorpions, snails, snakes chameleon and
the rest but I prefer eating
jangwala gwada (agama lizard)," he explained.
Asked why he prefers eating live lizards to cooked ones, he
explains that his natural sadistic traits of taking pleasure in
seeing a live lizard dies, is what makes him not to cook it. "Even
when I was young, I love killing lizards with catapult, and I
enjoyed seeing it die when I shot it," the lizard eater said.
He added that sometimes he spends about 3 months in wild
eating reptile and that living in the bush is what gives his good
health. "When I stay in the bush for some months, I eat surfeit of
live lizards, snakes and chameleons and my skin freshened. I turn
malnourished when I come to live in domestic area," he reasoned.
He told this reporter that in the town lizards are not many
and snakes and chameleons are next to none. According to him, it is
the scarcity that compels him to migrate.
He also said that because of eating lizards, his skin is
turning so coarse as lizard's. "My skin is as hard as lizard's,"
the uneven young man expressed.
Mika'ilu said that catching live reptiles is as easy as
picking cherry. "No matter the speed at which a lizard or snake
runs, I catch it very easily," he boasted.
Displaying his prowess in zapping a passing lizard, Mika'ilu
dashed and caught a passing lizard. When he caught the hapless
agama lizard, he chopped off its head with his sharp canines. "Its
very delicious, it is more delicious than chicken pepper soup," he
said as he devoured the lizard.
He further told this reporter further that he always begin to
first eat the head and then the body without washing or removing
the intestine. "It will do nothing to me for I eat lizard with
relish more than how you relish eating your best delicacy,"
Mika'ilu said.
But he warned people to be cautious not to dare 'anger' agama
lizard because of its dangerous fluid. According to him, if
jangwala gwada got angry, it can lurk behind and secrete
some silky gel on one's path, which can make one lose control and
fall on the ground. "Once you tread at that gel and you fall down
and break your leg, you will die a cripple because the fracture
will never heal," said Mika'ilu.
He however explained that people erroneously thought lizard
doesn't bite and when it bites a person, the wound might become
cancer. "Any part of your body a lizard bites, the place will never
heal and will become cancer," the self-styled reptile specialist
said.
Mika'ilu noted further that lizards are not tolerant as
people wrongly suppose and they attacked people when they realise
that a person is harming them. "Lizard takes offence at slightest
provocation and it is not as tolerant as gecko," he explained.
But Mika'ilu's friend said that when they first met Mika'ilu
first frightened him but he has now acquiesced himself with
Mika'ilu's weird behaviour. "When we first met I shuddered at
getting closer to him thinking that he would attack me," said his
friend.
Mika'ilu however told this reporter that his parents are
alive and they no longer put a halt to his uncanny behaviour. "My
parents know that I give herbs to people under the spell of lizard.
You know people do black magic against others with lizard," the SS2
Student of Durumi Secondary School, Kano Nigeria revealed.
