I wasn't happy with the $700B bailout when I first heard about it,
but I did know that they were going to pass it no matter what. It
was the first step in recovering the economy, and no one really
knew what would happen by doing it. Hindsight being 20/20 it wasn't
the best thing to do. I am not saying it won't have an effect, but
it was far from the "solution" to the problem.
Then when I heard the "Big 3" were going to make a play to
get in on the "corporate welfare" bandwagon, and I went through the
roof! The Big 3 has done NOTHING to save itself, provide better
cars, improve fuel efficiency, or to become "greener" in at least
40 years! I recently watched the documentary "Who killed the
electric car" and was appalled at what GM had done to prevent
consumers from going green.
Congress did the semi right thing though and sent them away
to think about how to fix their companies IF they did get a
bailout. But the reality and magnitude of the situation warrant the
Big 3 to suffer what they have created. I have heard people say
"There will be 3 million jobs lost!" "It will affect every sector
of the economy" and "The big 3 are the backbone of the economy",
all very valid points; but all skipping over the nature of
business. There ARE other US automakers! Here is a short list of 4
that would love to take the place of the Big 3:

Don't they deserve the $25B instead of those that have
mismanaged their companies and still not provided the American
people the cars we needed when gas was $4 a gallon? These 4
companies provide green cars that the Big 3 either cant or wont.
Why not give them a chance to thrive instead of flushing more money
on the big 3?
