Several impeachment complaints have already been filed against the President of the Philippines, Gloria Arroyo. The latest complaint was deliberated by Congress, a great majority of which are followers of the President. In arguing against the impeachment, Congressman Garcia likened the President to Jesus Christ and said, "More than 2,000 years ago, our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified because of an opinion survey. Pontius Pilate presented our Lord to the crowd and said, ‘Whom would you prefer, Barabas or Christ to crucify?' Our Lord Jesus Christ lost in the survey. Is that how we are going to judge our President because of an opinion survey?" During the break in the deliberations, Congressman de Venecia said that comparing President Gloria Arroyo with Jesus Christ was stretching it too far. He further said,"We should not take the name of our God, Jesus, lightly. We should not compare GMA (President Gloria Arroyo) to Jesus who is our Lord God. President Arroyo is not our lord." Now, guess what the result of the deliberations was. Well, unlike the fate of Jesus Christ, the impeachment complaint against the unpopular President Gloria Arroyo, was dropped. And,unlike the desciples of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion, President Gloria Arroyo's countless allies in the Philippine Congress, are happily celebrating.
