Hillary Clinton. Secretary of State or The Puppeteer?

Obama is set to nominate Hillary Clinton as secretary of state Monday.
Some Obama supporters dislike this as they perceive this move to be a betrayal of Obama's campaign promises of change. They feel that this signals business as usual in Washington.

Surprisingly, some Hillary Clinton supporters are just as dissatisfied and have no desire to see their candidate, quote, "rescue the inexperienced Obama." They also fear that acceptance of this cabinet position means she will not run for President in 2012.

This move will dissatisfy a great many democrats. On the other hand many republicans are pleased with this turn of events. The reasons?
  1. Compared to Obama, Hillary Clinton is hawkish when it comes to defense.
  2. This appointment will take Hillary out of the Presidential race in 2012 thus removing the one woman from the race who has the potential to beat Palin in a head to head match up.
  3. Many republicans feel satisfied that Hillary will bring an experience level to the Obama team that will make the United States safer than some of the other potential candidates for the position. As the spouse of former President Bill Clinton she will have intimate access to that man's experience in foreign affairs. Though he was viewed by republicans as weak in defense during his own Presidency, former President Bill Clinton is a savvy politician who definitely has the capability of learning from his mistakes. Therefore he will no doubt be able to help her avoid a great many errors.
  4. Obama is currently beleaguered by legal problems due to several lawsuits. The Berg and Keyes lawsuits could spell disaster for Obama. Hillary's presence in the cabinet would help stabilize the transition of power.

Still others view this nomination as setting the stage for the third Clinton administration. They fear that the vastly more experienced Hillary will be able to manipulate the inexperienced Obama and that she will be President in all but name. In effect becoming a puppet master.

Hillary Clinton. Love her or hate her, even her enemies view her as staunchly pro American in her politics.
