Cotton ball snow blankets Iowa

Eastern Iowa's first significant snowfall clumps together over everything, creating a cotton ball like effect. Little wind and saturated snow allowed the 3 or so inches of snow to accumulate overnight. Another interesting note, old folk sayings suggest that the first snow to cling to the North side of trees will be the last storm of the season. Every year for the last five I've witnessed that has held true, but I highly doubt that will be the case this year. Photographs by Clarence Smith, Waterloo, IA 50701
In response to assignment: Severe weather
