INDIA, smell the coffee beans.... please....
November 30, 2008 | mumbai | Vetting explained
Hey Nicole, this is one is for you.. Being a producer of ireport, you wrote to me asking me to upload something on iReport. To be honest - I didn't feel like writing or uploading anything! Reason: Our Indian media has done the best possbile job covering the whole attack with so much detail and gutso that there was nothing left for an ordinary person like me to do. The risk those people took to cover, shoot the incident was like... hats off to those guys...
But like any other Mumbaiite, I am full of anger and concern and thats why I now write.. Our ministers have begun the 'blame game' along expected lines and there has been a reshuffle in portfolios. For the benefit of those, who don't know much about India, let me tell you that our Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram is now the new HOME MINISTER after resignation of Mr. Shivraj Patil who took ''moral'' responsibility for the attacks! _All along expected lines!!!!!
Another of our minister was of the opinion that such incidents keep taking place in big cities and that one should take it in their stride! Guys, gimme a break!
I think what I want to know is this: to carry out a profession, one needs formal education in that field. For example, a doctor cannot practice law and like wise, a lawyer cannot operate on you. So you need to SPECIALIZE in the field, right? Likewise, if a minister is allocated a particular portfolio, as a pre-requisite, does he not need to know the subject ?? I strongly suggest that anybody handling a portfoilio needs to know the subject well. I mean we are talking of the nation's security and not something else!
I wish India could learn from the United States where not a single attack has taken place after 9/11. I was present in the US that day and Ive seen the swift action the Govt has taken to put things right and more over to send a STRONG message to the World that WE WON'T TAKE IT LYING DOWN! Hello, India, wake up and smell and coffee beans, what have you told the world by now? Forget the world, what have you told the nation by now? Please stop the blame games.. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
I don't know how far my voice can go, or weight it carries, but here is another suggestion: India needs a DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY just like the one the US has. This should be headed only by the chief of the army or military and not by any minister who one day handles finance, the next day home and maybe another day defence!
This is for the first time something like this has happened in the tony address of South Mumbai and has left all the rich and famous people wondering, ''it could have been ME''! So India Inc., life will get back to normal and as a matter of no choice, we will have to put this behind us and move on, but PLEASE don't wait for another such incident to wake up, you have the voice, SPEAK UP dammit!
Could go on and on........... need one opportunity to talk in front of a larger audience...
