Boquete, Panama
November 30, 2008
A massive, coordinated effort by national and local agencies
has Boquete running on all cylinders again and in record time.
Torrential, unrelenting rainfall hammered this Panama coffee
producing town and resulted in massive flooding when the Caldera
River breeched its boundaries.
Within 48 hours, services were restored and most residents
stranded from their homes were able to return.
Local businesses are quick to note that "by and large"
they were not adversely affected and are open for business as
usual.
A comprehensive list of Boquete businesses may be found
online at the Boquete411 Business Directory:

When I queried Jackie Athanasiadis, owner of Palo Alto
Riverside Boutique Hotel, she commented "Damage was confined to the
exterior, we're sprucing up the grounds and plumping up pillows for
our loyal guests."
Jackie's Inn resides on the banks of the Caldera River and
was initially feared to be heavily damaged, if not a total loss.
Jackie and local businessman and marketing guru, Juan
Antonio Villegas will jointly launch "The Boquete Bounce" a
promotional campaign designed to sustain the inflow of tourists,
recreation hounds and the investment dollar to Boquete.
Participating businesses will offer travel, tour and
accommodation incentives and discounts.
