iReport —
6 months after the June 2008 flooding of Cedar Rapids, CRATOS and Cedar Rapids continue to focus on the recovery and restoration efforts in the community. One of the symbols of the flood's devistation and impact to the community at large was the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ and it's home, the 1928 Paramount Theatre. CRATOS continues to fight for the organ and the theatre with the hope of seeing both returned to the public as they once were. CRATOS, with the generous help of the Rockwell Retiree Volunteers and the The Carl & Mary Koehler History Center, have moved the remaining portions of the Wurlitzer's console, along with the console of the 1927 Rhinestone Barton organ from the Theatre Cedar Rapids into the history center's annex. In this temporary home, the community can stop by to view the damage from the flood, discuss restoration efforts, and soon we hope to see restored or recreated consoles on display. CRATOS continues to provide updates on the preservation and restoration efforts on its website: www.cr-atos.com.
