For the first time this year, unexpected levels of demand have outstripped the limited supplies of birdseed in the feeder, leaving local birds frustrated and hungry.
Normally replenished once every seven days on Sunday mornings, the birdfeeder has successfully sustained the needs of local birds for three consecutive weeks. According to the feeder's owner, however, this week brought an unforeseen result.

"I don't know what happened," said the puzzled homeowner. "We usually fill it about once a week and it's pretty empty by the time we get around to it, but this week it came up empty by Wednesday night." He added that limited inventory of seed would mean that local birds would not see new stock of seed until Saturday at the earliest.

There were scattered reports of new birds in the area, including at least one cardinal and a pair of blue jays, widely acknowledged as a territorial species. "I don't know if these new birds eat more, or if they are possibly hoarding food because of the cold weather," said the homeowner, "but in the meantime we are asking all local birds to expand their range of search to include neighboring houses and fields."
