Memories of Señor Montalban
January 15, 2009 | Salt Lake City, Utah | Vetting explained
My father was a television and screen actor as well. When he was filming the role of Carlos in "Blue", I was able to spend several days in southern Utah watching the production (and trekking through the hot desert as an extra). I recall spending the better part of one day with my father, along with Ricardo Montalban and Jimmy Westerfield. We had a meal with a family in Monticello - I think they were friends or relations to Señor Montalban - and spent a good bit of an afternoon hunting in the desert for potshards and arrowheads. (At the time, in 1967, no one knew this was not legal!) I recall Señor Montalban as being friendly, kind and most gracious, and have remembered that time with great fondness all my life.
