Severe Weather Rattles Southeast Kansas
Residents in Southeastern Kansas had a rough night Thursday as a
line of severe thunderstorms produced deadly lightning, large hail,
and three separate tornado warnings in the span of just a few
hours.
The storm followed a consistent path through Northeastern
Wilson County into Southern Allen and Northern Neosho Counties
before passing through Bourbon County. Hail as large as a baseball
was reported as well as high winds gusting up to 50 mph. In
addition to the tornado warnings, tornado watches, severe
thunderstorm warnings, and flood watches were in effect well into
the night, causing many residents to leave their homes in order to
seek a safer shelter. Many businesses in the area locked their
doors, having their employees and customers take shelter in the
building.
The series of tornado warnings and rough weather was followed
by another severe thunderstorm just a few hours later, bringing
with it high winds, active lightning, and torrential rain.
