BISCAYNE BLVD now and then...(Video Version) Yesterday I had the unique opportunity to see firsthand, City government and civilians working together to make something good happen. The event is called MIMO, hosted on Biscayne Boulevard, Miami FL. Anyone can tell you that this was an area ravished by crime, prostitution most noticeably, followed by drugs. In an effort to try and bring back this area, the MIMO BISCAYNE ASSOCIATION was born: MiMo Biscayne Association 686 NE 74th Street Miami, FL 33138 Phone 305-758-6144 Mobile 305-773-0823 www.mimoboulevard.org Email: info@mimoboulevard.org With a collective effort between private citizens and the City of Miami, we learned very quickly how much can be done, even in an area known for crime. Many of the hotels which served the prostitution houses, were gutted, and rebuilt as trendy stores, and restaurants. Very little evidence exists of what this boulevard used to represent. The boulevard is not yet done; however, I could see this place 12, 24, 36 months into the future and can see all sorts of potential for prosperity. For a brief moment, I relived what South Beach once was back in the early 1980s (SAME STORY). South Beach, is now known to the world as a trendy touristic strip, however it was once an area plagued by prostitution, murders, and drugs. Over twenty years later, South Beach is the place for the elite to live and play. Congrats to the MiMo Biscayne Association, the City of Miami, and all that attended this event. It is people like us working in concert that make the difference.
