Official Myanmar Newspaper Weather Forecast (4/29/08)
This was the official weather forecast in the Myanmar Newspaper
concerning the Cyclone Nargis on April 29th, 2008 heavily
underestimating the force of the cyclone even after warnings from
India and Thailand.

"
Heavy rain, strong winds, and big waves
nay pyi daw april 29th
According to today's weather forecast at 18:00 hours Myanmar
standard
time, the strong cyclone 'Nargis' occuring in the midwest of
the Bay of Bengal has apparently not become
stronger but is tracking slowly north towards approximately
585 miles
north-northwest of Coco Island.
It is forecast that the above strong cyclone will not become
stronger
within 24 hours and will move slowly towards the Northeast.
Due to this big cyclone, within 48 hours from noon today,
dense to
scattered heavy rain could be expected in: Arakan, Mon, and
Karan
divisoin as well as Irrawaddy, Yangon, Peju and Tanansarim
divisions.
Along and beyond the coastline of Myanmar, occasional heavy
rain and
high waves can occur. During this heavy rain, wind over the
sea and
land could be 40-45 miles per hour.
