Thursday, January 29, 2009 11:00:37 EST (USA) Miami, FL (SOBE) - In an article published by Bob Unruh on January 2, 2009, he is quoted as saying " A perfect storm is developing for Second Amendment opponents that could allow President-elect Barack Obama's choice for attorney general - Eric Holder - to "ban guns at will" despite the 2008 affirmation from the U.S. Supreme Court that U.S. citizens have a right to bear arms." This fiasco that is suddenly brewing in the Whitehouse and abroad reminds me of what took place in New Orleans, LA. When Katrina hit. Law Enforcement was nowhere to be seen, leaving all residents at the mercy of criminals (Murderers, Rapist, thieves). Criminals had a free for all, many of which had weapons and in fact where shooting at the "very few" police officers that remained to help those in dire need of protection. To add insult to injury, the National Guard moves in and the Mayor orders that all guns be taken from law abiding citizens, leaving all even more prone to criminals and their craft. (Keep in mind that criminals will never give up their weapons) whereas everyday citizens always comply with the law. That story was simply a mess to put it lightly and reminds me of the potential implications in America if we allow any government, (Local, state, or Federal, International) to take away our right to bare arms in an effort to protect ourselves. (Remember, there are not enough police officers in the U.S to run to the rescue each time a criminal decides to commit a crime). Having said that, I think we the people should simply voice our opinion and underscore the premise that government should simply do a better job of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and enforce the laws already in place. In addition, Government should promote better training to current and would be gun owners that would teach them everything from how to properly use a weapon, how to safely store weapons, to the legal implications of misusing a firearm. Recently I watched a report on WSVN where a riot broke out at a prison in Florida. Once order was established, guns were found to be in the possession of prisoners. In an unrelated case this year, another prison inmate in Wilmington, NC smuggled a gun in an effort to frame other inmates in exchange for a lighter sentence on his already existing crimes. Now tell me this, how in God's name can our government (Local, state, or Federal, International) take our right to protect ourselves, when they can't even keep guns away from criminals who are already incarcerated (In prison). I struggle to understand what makes people think that criminals on the streets will not have guns, just because law abiding citizens do not? Our country has some real fundamental problems which affect the very principals for which our way of life has stood for well over 100 years. It is truly disturbing to me to see such a lack in common sense. Please note that Guns do not hurt people, people hurt people. Here is a fact finding figure for you (Seventy five percent) of violent crimes in America are committed without the use of a firearm. Do the math folks. Be sure to read the references provided below.
