The Children of San Matao
I have been photographing for over 45 years. My first camera
was a polaroid. I loved the instant gratification of the film.
Recently I have been traveling with a photo group and I have always
had issue with language. I found that bringing a Polaroid camera
with me has helped me bridge this gap. I an sending the only
picture I took away from San Mateo Mexico last year.
I found a group of children playing and went in and got my
Polaroid and the 10 packages of film I brought with me and then the
fun begin. I spent the next hour photographing all the children in
the village (while my fellow photographers photographed me), The
children loved it.
The next eve we were invited to the village celebration. When
I arrive at the celebration I saw all the mothers sitting at a
picnic table showing the pictures I had taken the day before and
they were so proud at how beautiful their children were. I will
probablly never be a great photographer, but for that 24 hours I
was the greatest photographer in the village. I only have one
picture of this event and I have included with this note. My heart
breaks with the end of Polaroid film.
