iReport —

I remember this day.  I was almost five years old.  Every morning my mother would listen to the radio in the kitchen while she prepared breakfast for my brother.  We were in the deep throws of winter, and often times school would be cancelled.

On the morning of February 3, 1959 my mother had just heard the news.  My brother was at the age where he was interested in rock n' roll music, and would play the new songs on his trumpet.  My mother  said to my brother, "Buddy Holly was killed last night in a plane crash", and I being younger, asked who he was, she said, "you know, he does that song "Peggy Sue".

Years latter, I became a huge Buddy Holly fan.  I purchased the complete five volume set of all his work for my "LP" collection.

Each year on February 3rd, I remember my mother and her brown radio, standing there making breakfast and anouncing to my brother, sister and me, that Buddy Holly had died.
