THE HOUSE THAT JAMES BUILT
This is the house that James Edmondson built.
In 1963 as a child I watched my father spend hours on a drafting board drawing the designs for this house after work.
James Edmondson was an engineer for the government and also designed houses for others in Chicago, including the one next door.
I spent most of my childhood here and have many fond memories of him as he put on the finishing touches. This house was built in 1967 and is one of the most unique houses in the nieborhood. .
It kind of reminds me of a Frank Loyd Wright ..
I was a young child of ten when we moved in and those times are some of the most memorable in my life.
He along with my mother brothers and I, did the landscaping, planted sod, and all of the shrubbery, trees and bushes you see in the picture. He also planted an orchard and garden in the back yard, with two apple trees, two peach trees, two plum trees, grape vines, blue berries, and an assortment of other fruits and vegetables. To understand the perspective, this was all done in the middle of the city, the south side of Chicago.
Our house was the favorite place for the kids in the nieborhood to come and swipe apples. When my son was born I moved back home and this is also the place he was raised. And the place we live today.
My father passed away last year in September and his memory will live forever in the house that James built.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF JAMES LEE EDMONDSON
Thanks
