Fighting for the Rights of Learning Disabled Students
I am a student in college, and I have a learning disability. When
arriving at college I was told that my teachers would make a
difference and inspire me, however, I have found myself fighting
for an equal education. Shouldn't teachers embrace difference and
attempt to make a student's life easier? Tests measure nothing, and
with a learning disability tests do nothing except tear you down.
Many children have this, but my government seems to ignore the
problem. Education should accept the fact that all students learn
differently and to follow a strict guideline discriminates against
the millions of people who have so much potential but no one to
believe in them. I face problems with tests, I cannot study abroad
because the ADA (America for Disabilities Act) does not apply
abroad, Socializing is a problem, and a life to lead. School should
not be making things harder, and yet that is the course they have
chosen. I hope that when people do read this they learn that having
a learning disability does not make one retarded, but rather it
means that they learn differently. The world needs to start paying
attention to this, and I hope through this excerpt they will...
