IF (Inspired by Kipling)
February 16, 2009 | Stockbridge, Georgia | Vetting explained
IF
if a broken heart
begins to mend
and a rigid mind
is moved to bend...
if a hungry soul
is fed and blessed
and a rolling stone
comes home to rest...
if the rich and poor
could find a way
to close the gap
and save the day...
if a battered wife
survives the night
and eyes once black
now see the light...
if a cure is found
for cancers rare
and a mother's breast
the knife is spared...
if a curious boy
learns how to read
and a homeless man
earns his first deed...
if a frigid frown
thaws to a smile
and a spirit down
skies for a mile...
if Cinderella
finds her lost shoe
and the lonely girl
keeps her love true...
then these few lines
would make my life's work
most complete and fulfilling...
