Stimulus and other thoughts
February 19, 2009 | NYC, New York | Vetting explained
I am a small struggling independent 10 year business owner, barely scrapping by like everyone else, in the greatest city in the world...
Today I opened a notice from my bank regarding: "IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING CHANGES TO YOUR ACCOUNT"
I have been a GREAT customer, paid all my bills before time, maintain all my accounts in great standing, make sure all my t's are crossed and i's are dotted and have always kept a very minimal balance, if at all on any credit card purchases.
I was informed that beginning April 1, my current APR rate will now MORE THAN DOUBLE, along with increasing other fee and finance charges.
"THE PRINCIPAL FACTOR WE CONSIDERED IN AMENDING YOUR ACCOUNT IS MAINTAINING PROFITABILITY ON YOUR ACCOUNT."
Apparently, through the years I was not a profitable enough client. I am completely flabbergasted at the complete gall of it all. Aren't my taxes paying for this bank to keep afloat? I was told I could close the account if I disagree... which of course leaves me no recourse.
This situation and others like this are devastating, discouraging, deflating and besides being completely pissed off, I feel used by the very system that we as tax payers are forced to play ball with.

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
on air, or on any of CNN's platforms.
