Burma expat medical profession: Chinese, Burmese & South Asian Indians donates to cyclone relief
http://mamsus.org/
Dear all:
The MAMES executive committee and board members held an
emergency meeting last night during which we discussed our current
fund-raising effort, which consists of 3 Phases.
For phase 1, we're proud to report that the organization had
already collected more than $20,000. Thanks for the outpouring
generosity and support from our members far and near .The detailed
lists of contributing donors will be posted by our secretary on our
official website,
http://MAMSUS.org.
We already established volunteer ground zero team in Yangon,
Myanmar, co-chaired by Dr. Than Than Win and Dr.Nwe Ni Than. They
are classmates of our secretary, Dr. Myat Myat Mon who make it
possible. They are committed to execute the rescue and
rehabilitation plans set forth by MAMES.
PHASE I
In less than a week, we've raised over $20,000 for phase 1.
This money is already on its way directly to ground zero volunteer
medical team . They chose one devastated community near Myaung-Mya
town, one of hardest hit area in Ayeyarwaddy Delta Region, to
provide humanitarian assistance to nearly 4000 displaced villagers
with basic necessities, food and water. They set up mobile clinic
there providing basic medical care for the sick and the injured,
distributing rice and drinking water at the same time. The society
acknowledged their passionate volunteerism and their commitment and
dedication. The GZT will report back to us in detail on all
expenses and progress of their work for the community. 100% of
donation will go to victims. We'll update the on-going donations
and progress regularly on our web page.
I would like to stress that we've donated directly to
affected victims, and not through usual organizations like UNICEF,
WHO,Save the Children , who not only have high overhead costs to
cover, but also have to go through the corrupt military junta, who
cannot be trusted nor helpful by blocking the international aids
through red tape at the expense of misery and suffering of more
than million homeless cyclone victims.
Amongst other selfless individuals, Dr. Kyi Min, who has been
working in Myanmar with the World Vision NGO organization for many
years and who has already gained trust and support of local
communities in the area; is working with us to help set up all
logistic needs, coordinating local resources and distribution
networks.
Although much has been done already in such a short time and
more need to be done, our current donations will not go far; and
that is why we are now focusing our effort on Phase 2 of this
relief initiatives.
PHASE II
Our phase 2I effort begins with a Fund-raising Dinner on
Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Golden Bridge Restaurant | 50 Bowery
Street, NY, located in NY Chinatown at 6:00 PM. Our goal is to
raise $100,000 to continue our relief efforts.
We have 120 tables awaiting your attendance. The entire cost
of dinner is being generously sponsored by four of our own: Dr.
Kyaw Myint, Dr. Kyaw Tun, Dr. Howard Lai, and Dr. Mimi Lai.
The society acknowledged their generous donations to make it
happen.
Please open your heart and wallets by buying dinner tickets
at minimum of $60 or $100 to maximum of any amount your heart
desire.
Phase 2 fund will be spent to establish sanitation and clean
water resources for the village, to rebuild a village school and a
village medical clinic.
PHASE III
Our next step, Phase III, will concentrate on rebuilding and
reconstruction efforts on one community at a time in the village.
The success of phase 3 depends entirely on your continued support
and generous donations.
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts if you choose
to donate to our effort now; and even greater thank you if you
choose to donate again and again in near future.
ADDITIONAL NOTE
Myanmar is now desperately in need a lot of help from
community around the world to get back on its feet. It is a
wonderful country with a rich history and giving people; it has
given a lot to many of us and you, so please, give back - and
continue to give back.
We'd like to extend our sincerest thanks to all those doctors
and volunteers who get involve with their hearts and souls in
helping the helpless. May God bless you.
