iReport —

Since I lost my job in October, I have cut my driving down to a minimum. I drive less than 20% of what I normally would. Of course I don't have to drive to work, but I have found that walking into town every day is a great way to get exercise, meet people, and get to know my community better. I take a backpack with me and make smaller purchases than I used to when I need to shop.  I try to only get the things we need instead of things we might want.

I haven't filled my tank since the middle of December and I still have about half a tank. Think about how much gas you use each month. It adds up!

I am fortunate to live in a small town where much is accessible within walking distance. Not everyone has this luxury, but when you plan your next move, perhaps you will consider the savings to both your wallet and the earth if you choose to live where walking is a preferred mode of transportation. Oh yeah, I like to ride my bicycle too, weather permitting.

I am attaching a photo of my car earlier this winter. It took a while before I removed the snow. I could have just as soon left it until Spring.
