Paul Harvey and My Career
March 2, 2009 | Gulf Shores, Alabama | Vetting explained
As far as I know, in Paul Harvey's decades long career he played only one song, my 1979 oil crisis anthem, "Cheaper Crude Or No More Food." It bounced me on to the world stage immediately. After his airing of the song, "Cheaper Crude or No More Food" climbed to the Top 40 in national record charts. The song prompted feature stories about me and my tune in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and US Magazine to name a few. I was on several network shows of the time including The Mike Douglas Show and Real People. It just goes to show how well loved and listened to Paul Harvey was. He was reluctant to let me thank him for my success because the song became so popular. I was told he was afraid it might look like a commercial endeavor of which he was a part. After all, integrity was Paul Harvey's middle name.
