this is michael dorsey reporting from the corner of crenshaw and
manchester in inglewood, ca,
in the aftermath of the officer involved shooting which took
place this past sunday.
I just happen to work across the street from where the
shooting took place. I was not in my office when it occurred,
however I was able to gather some info from neighbors and news
reports.
Michael Byoune, 19, a young black man, was killed by
Inglewood police officers in the 3000 block of Manchester Boulevard
about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, May 11. Byoune was declared dead at the
scene, authorities said.
According to police, officers were in their patrol car when
they heard gunfire. They saw a man running from a parking lot and
getting into a slow-moving car. The officers fired several shots as
the vehicle came toward them, police said. Byoune was sitting in
the passenger side of the car. The driver of the car was also
wounded and taken to a local hospital.
Witnesses say that the young men involved were waiting for
their burger order when the shooting started. 2 were waiting in the
the car and the driver of the car was running back to the car to
get out of the line of fire. they had no idea where the shooting
was coming from. after the police had searched the boys and the
vehicle, there was no gun, or weapons found. the boys mother
indicated that these boys did not get into trouble and were not
into any gangs or drugs.
.
As you can see here, a vigil has been set up in memory of
Michael Byoune.
Tasha Taylor, 27, sits with her aunt Jackie Roberts, 55, the
mother of Michael Byoune.
The sad reality is that a mother lost her son on Mother's
Day.
