Social discrimination in Qatar!

Doha, Qatar // embed media

Today The City Centre shopping mall, decided to refuse entry to most of the workforce who attempted to go in for a weekend walk in the mall.

This action was disguised by the poor excuse of "family only day". The political correct and false policy hides the sad truth of forbidding workers to have a bit of distraction in a cooler environment that this dull city could offer them.

The fact is the any western or Qatari who attempted to walk in alone, was not stopped. However if any individual who appeared to be a labour, either alone or in a group were stopped at the door.

These individuals are here in Qatar, working very hard in extremely difficult and risky environment, living in very uncomfortable conditions, being paid a miserable tiny salary, under contracts that remove from them  most of their personal freedom and all that far away from their families, on the only day they have to be a bit more in touch to a normal world, they take the bus all the way from the industrial area to west bay, just to be pushed out from a public shopping mall with no respect for them. On top of that they see other individual's going in alone, just because they are wearing clothes or have skin of other colors.

The whole sea front, The Corniche of about 4 kms, is also banned for laborers on Fridays. In the heat of summer, with no access to malls or sea side, the labors don't have much more alternatives besides their camps which are located in the outskirts of Doha, in desertic and dusty land with no conditions.

What a very sad hipocretic society this is! The whole world sees what China does in Tibet and demands change, but I wonder why societies like this one are not exposed and no pressure is exercised upon to demand change!

What is happening here in Qatar and other similar countries in the region is probably the biggest abuse against human rights still hidden from the eyes of the rest of the world.

Where is CNN, BBC and Algecira?

I just wonder if the way labors are paid and treated here in Qatar follows Islamic principles???!

PS. Apologize for the tone of this message but I am revolted for what I see here, human rights abuse everywhere all the time, seen as "normal", here.
