Back in 2006 I realized the cost of gasoline was going to rise. So, I decided to go back to riding motorcycles.

Now, I'm not a Yale Economics graduate but I did get an M.A. with a grade point higher than 2.0 so I figured I was better at determining what would happen in the coming years regarding gasoline prices than the current "economist-in-charge!"

Lo and behold, two years later I was right.

I now have two motorcycle, both get over 50 mpg. I commute everyday except when the rain is full of cats and dogs. My wife sold her Chey TrailBlazer for a Pontiac Vibe.

We get along just fine with the motorcycles and the Vibe, even going to the grocery store together; there's room in the saddlebags for three to four bags of groceries.

I fill up each bike every two weeks. 4.6 gallons of gas every two weeks is better than 20 gallons every week.

If we really need to haul stuff we'll probably get a hack - that's a motorcycle with a sidecar.

As someone earlier wrote, riding a motorcycle to work, and back home, has it's mental advantages. Relaxation, despite the cager SUV/minivan moms with a cell phone plastered to their ears who seem oblivious to the world outside their vehicle.

Va-room-va-room
