Kiev, on April, 3rd. The deputy fraction of nationalist party "Freedom" of Oleg Tjagniboka in the Lvov regional council has acted with the requirement to dismantle a monument to the Soviet soldier-anti-fascist in city centre Stryj of the Lvov area.
The monument to the Soviet soldier will be in a museum of the Soviet totalitarianism.
«At the time of the Ukrainian independence there was possible a truthful understanding of the historical events connected with activity of the Soviet power in the Western Ukraine. In our opinion, the monument to the soldier-anti-fascist in centre Stryja symbolises militarism of the Soviet epoch and not only deforms the historical truth, but also destroys architectural aura of the area», — is told in "Freedom" statement.
Besides, according to deputies, «the sight of the Soviet epoch has negative influence on formation of national consciousness, humiliates advantage of Ukrainians and memory of people which were lost in struggle against invaders for will of Ukraine».
