"Miracle on the Hudson" - Luggage Returned
May 31, 2009 | Paris, France | Vetting explained
Luggage from passengers on flight 1549 has been restored and returned. Here is a firsthand account from a "Miracle on the Hudson" survivor.
There are four photos:
1. what the box looked like when it arrived
2. the contents
3. my one piece of checked luggage
4. leather shoes from inside my bag, looking like they've been through a soggy plane crash !
Some observations. overall the company that managed the retrieval and restoration of passenger items did an excellent job. The contents were thoroughly cleaned, but had a strong chemical smell. Wool items had shrunk due to the freezing Hudson water. Leather items look worn and need re-conditioning. All electronic items were corroded and not usable.
I’m missing valuable items that were in the same bag. However it's minor in the scheme of things. We were extremely lucky to escape from events on January 15th with our lives, thanks to the skill and heroism of the pilot, crew and rescuers.
