Main Street West Pelzer, South Carolina
June 4, 2009 | West Pelzer, South Carolina | Vetting explained
Main Street West Pelzer, South Carolina, a bedroom community of Greenville, South Carolina, two hours from Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA. Formerly Frankville (1913), the Town of West Pelzer has a rich history from a former vibrant textile community. Photos from Town Hall have images of the first mayor watching the first electricity being converted from AC power to DC power.
Historic homes line Main Street with the former business district anchoring the town. The business district began loosing power at the mills closing in the early 1990's.
In early 2009, the Town of West Pelzer announced they had received a $200,000 SCDOT Enhancement Grant to revitalize 100% of the business district. West Pelzer was seeking to update the core district and attract new businesses without loosing its historic character.
The pictures show a dead town but a proactive community determined to make West Pelzer a great place to live and shop, as vibrant and exciting as it was at its conception in 1913.
